Does a light gun work on a rear-projection CRT HDTV?

I'm wondering if a PS2 guncon2 / Xbox light gun / NES zapper will work on this rear-projection HDTV that my buddy owns here.

Google has mixed answers.

Some people say if you turn the brightness all the way up, it'll work.

Some people say the vertical/horizontal lines are messed, so it won't work.

Note that I don't have friends who own light guns.

I never got a NES light gun to work on my friend's rear-projection HDTV, but I might just be retarded.

EDIT: And by "retarded" I mean they can do anything.

It will not work. The light gun has to reflect IR light off the glass. Projection TVs do not have glass screens. At best, you might get some stray shots to register.

Then why did the Guncons never work with my direct-projection CRT HDTV?

Errr, he doesn't know how lightguns work, there's no IR in normal (crt) lightguns afaik. They're based on flashing the screen so that they can calculate which pixel the lightgun's pointing at based on the cathode ray's timing. Look it up on wikipedia or something.

There was an IR gun for PS2 and Xbox that work the same way as the Wiimote does though (so it needed the same type of ir lights the wii has).

I have a glass TV.

Is the answer still no?

This TV is pretty crappy. It doesn't display things properly in 4:3 or in 16:9.

In 4:3, the TV enalrges the image and cuts off the sides of it. In 16:9, it's missing the perimeter of the image, so I can't see things in the far right/left sides.

For reference, it's a Phillips HDTV before HDTV resolutions became standard. It displays at a funky resolution of like 15:9.

Can't you recalibrate it? I was planning on reliving some old duck hunt days using a nes emulator under xbox.

Duck Hut should work fine because it does a full blanking on the target. Its the GunCon games that will experience drift.

Guncon 1 and 2 didn't work on the rptv I had in college.

Just go buy Ghost Squad.
