What with all the videos and what not we post through sites like yousend it or whatever, does anyone wanna set up a gaf torrent site for all the media that gets posted? As long as theres no real illegal stuff being posted i dont think anyone would mind, but itd be nice if we didnt have to use all those weird 3rd party sites and we could upload bigger files as well.

i dont know anything about making a site, im just saying if someone wants to do it they can :p

I wouldn't mind setting it up on my site, but whos gonna host the trackers?

all we would need really is a way for people to post links and an image that shows how many seeds\leech are on the torrent, we wouldnt need a full blown out site persay

Torrents are only useful if there are a lot of simultaneous users. If this were only legal stuff then I don't think you would have very many seeders.

E3.

we will most likely need this in time for e3, there will be plenty of seeds and leeches then.

I talked to the other admins and we'll be hosting the torrents
The section won't be up until at least a week and a half since our main coder is away on vacation.

basically you would have to either e-mail, send through AIM or post a link to the torrent, the staff will look for any illegal content and then post it. We won't be able to seed any files.

We'll organise the torrents by date and console system.

Does anyone know how to host a tracker on a site?

BlogTorrent is an almost ridiculously easy way to set up a BT tracker. It uses PHP and a flat-file database. As long as you can set the appropriate directory permissions on the server and have the latest version of PHP, you should be good to go.

Technically speaking, even during E3 we are hosting illegal material -- special content from Gamespot and IGN usually.

It would be great to feature stuff coming from GAF members. For example, when vids were posted about BuddyChrists run on with the fire alarms etc. And of course, many GAF members travel to gaming functions, this coul encourage them to put up stuff. I would highlight some of my stuff but no one cares about that. Just a suggestion anyway.

on top of that if anyone ever records stuff they find funny or whatever they can post it. and people in the art thread can post video art or films they make or whatever it is

I also see this being beneficial for anytime a dead link (or a really slow one) shows up shortly after someone posts something. By that point, a couple people already have the file, so setup a torrent, people seed up and everyone else gets at the file.

You are assuming people will do good on their word and keep the window open seeding away.

I'm assuming that people would do so due to the community factor, especially considering the trouble that people go through to setup mirrors for given files. Why have 3 different mirrors when you can have one torrent?

Yes, one typo. You still understood did you or did you need someone to explain it to you? ;-) Anyway, my statement in no way says a torrent is the worst thing or not a good idea in fact, on the contrary. I pointed it out as something to think about; relying on "the community" is like relying on the honor code system on the net. (Tee Hee.)

I'd understand if it were just some gaf member posting their own work, some funny video they made or some footage of some jap only game no one's ever heard of, because those people would want other people to see thus you can rely that they will be there seeding to help spread out their work. If they don't their work won't be going anywhere.

However, as far as E3 videos go, I really think you are going to need someone preselected to be there seeding away. Not saying everyone is a jerk but when your downloading E3 videos people definately want to move on to the next E3 video download without the one you just finished downloading seeding and taking away precious bandwidth for the other E3 video downloads.

Don't forget the other forums/websites leeching away at our work too and not seeding after they are done. The jerks, I say.

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I think its a great idea. We honestly need it with this forum, especially during E3. Well done sporks, you are useful for somethings :)

The Inside Track
Guess what, I already did this for E3 last year. Yes, dedicated to GAF and all.

The torrent are obviously not working anymore, but I could easily put all back together.
Edit: It's worth mentioning that this 100% custom code built on top of the dehacked php tracker. I can very easily add some more stuff, especially since I'm on a 2 weeks vacation after a small stay at the hospital. And of course if it's more or less official GAF it's easy to change the colors and the domain.

Haha, I had no damn clue what you were talking about until I re-read your post. I just have this tendency to emphasize words for some reason. Seriously, heh, it wasn't even directed at that. Weird.

Yeah, believe me, I can see those potential problems with it as well. I still think it'd be worth it though, if only just to give it a shot.

Torrents age is a good idea.

let me discuss a few things with the higher ups and someone send me a pm with details of the tracker

It's done

Torrent Site

There is one file there just for an example, i'm count on you to add more.

Basically, whenever a file or video gets put up on GAF and the original servers seem to be overwhelmed or you just wanna share a large file with a lot of people you can upload to the site, the staff will try to assist in seeding as many files as possible, but the resposibility soley lies on you. After you upload a file, you must seed it.

To seed a file simply place the file you want to seed into the default download directory of your bit torrent client and the client will see that the file is there, thus making you a seeder. If you have azereus you can use the special seed command by going to file -> open (.torrent file for seeding). then select the .torrent file you downloaded press open. Then select the file your seeding.

Some basic FAQ
1) You do not have to be a member of titaniumforums or ga-forums to access/download/or upload a file

2) You cannot upload copyrighted content

3) no porn

4) Click the upload file button to find out how to upload a file.
