I was wondering this. I had the sucker plugged in after my first session and left the pc on and went to bed. I woke up and the charging light was still on. Been wondering about this. At least with my ipod, it displays the full charged graphic and that's that.

Is the light blinking orange or a solid orange?

To follow up on that... if it's blinking orange, then it never charged in the first place as there's a problem.

If it's solid orange, then it's still in charging mode.

For the record, mine finished charging in 4 hrs the first time.

FiRST CHARGE
I left it in for about 6hours and it stopped blinking so I took it out

SECOND CHARGE + SUBSEQUENT
When my IPOD shuffle charges, the orange light blinks. I left it on the pC for hours like I mentioned the other night; pretty surprised to see that it was still blinking. :O

Works alright and I have to say, I like it just that bit more than my ipod right now. Choices can be an awful thing. Glad to have both.

My ishuffle is retarded I guess. STOP BLINKING you power hungry whore!

any word on whether the battery has residual memory?

Are you plugging it into the front USB ports on your case? if that's the case, then those ports are usually deprived of power*.

Try plugging the shuffle into the USB ports at the connected to the actual motherboard.

*(Most webcams/pendrives don't work with USB ports on the front of cases, I'm not sure why, but it's from personal experience)

I actually have aquestion about the shuffle. On other iPods you coul plug it into some one elses PC and access the songs off of the iPod (you could not copy them, but you could at least listen to them) it seems the shuffle only allows you to reassign that iPod (Does this erase it as well?)

If it is blinking, then that means it's in 'disc' mode. I don't think it charges while in disc mode but I could be wrong. Basically, the blinking is a sign to tell you to not pull out the ipod when you're done other wise you might lose some data. You should eject it first before unplugging.

If this is your case, I believe when you eject it, the light should turn a solid orange. From there, try leaving it in for a few hours to see if it charges. If it turns green then it's done.

If you experiance that the light never turns green then return it or call apple.

To sum it up:
Blinking Orange = Disc mode, 'eject' the ipod from the computer but leave it connected in order to get a solid light.
Solid Orange = Charging
Solid Green = Fully Charged
Blinking Orange and Green = fucked.

What do you mean by reassign?

On 2000/Xp boxes you should be able to plug in the ipod and see it come up as a disc under the my computers icon.

From here, if you don't see an 'iPod Control' folder you have to enable viewing of hidden files/folders. All of the songs are located within these directories. You can either copy them from here, or double click to play them. I think the only ones that you can't play are ones that you have bought via iTunes.

Using this method, I'm able to transfer songs to/from my ipod. NOTE: Any songs I copy to my ipod will not be in my playlist until I add them in iTunes. That seems to be the only catch so far, although I'm sure there is software out there to do this.

I actually saw all of the songs on it, I just didn't bother listening to them since the particular computer I was on had no speakers.

I was just expecting it to pop up as a directory in iTunes like other iPods do (at least, to my recollection). I was also expecting not to be able to copy songs off of it without jumping through some hoops.
