American Red Cross Disaster Relief
All of us at Amazon.com are deeply saddened by the loss of lives resulting from the South Asia earthquake and tsunamis on December 26. We are offering customers the ability to make donations directly to the American Red Cross to aid the evacuation of survivors and the dispersal of first aid. One hundred percent of your donation will go to the American Red Cross. You will receive a confirmation email that may be used as a receipt. Thank you in advance for making any donation to help in this time of great need.

Thanks. You can make donations directly at the Red Cross site too but this provides a level of anonymity.

hmm.. the average donation seems to be about 33 dollars... that's not bad at all. Thanks for posting this :).

The average donation has steadily been about $30, if anyone's wondering how much might be appropriate (though, "whatever you can afford", be it small or large, is most appropriate).

I agree that this should be stickied.

I'm going to donate $40 (and encourage my family to do the same).

I just put in the 50 bucks my grandpa gave me for Christmas, I know some of you people here are pretty well off, so come on GAF, start representin'.

I donated some not nearly enough to replace thousands of lives. I hope what little i was able to donate can at least help others. This came as a shock and i'm glad to see so many donations.

This is a really convenient link, as many message board users have Amazon accounts. They even advertised this link on CNN this morning.

I'm spreading the word.

They're already over $2 million just off Amazon alone. Cool stuff.

Apple.com also has a similar thing going on with Red Cross, nice to see.

I already donated yesterday, but I'm thinking I may donate again today.

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
Thanks for the link. Im going to try and send this to as many people as I can, but my firends will probably ignore it.

The Canadian Red Cross website is down because its being swamped by hits from people wanting to donate.

Stuff like that makes you feel good.

I donated what I have left, and I'm trying to get others in too. Spread the word.

Apparently the Indian government is saying they don't need foreign aid, despite generous offers from the US, Russia, and Israel. They can handle the situation.

In Sri Lanka and Indonesia though I think the situation is much worse.

I gave £125 to the British Red Cross, although I'm (originally) from north India, I do feel an obligation to help out our neighbours down south....

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Did a donation. Will probably donate more once my bonus (hopefully I get one) comes in.

They are Christian, if you mind that sort of thing. Forbes has rated them as one of the worlds top charities. Through the way they handle money and partnerships, donating $30 will end up providing $2000+ worth of aid. They have been checked out and are solid, they are also members of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability to ensure this,

Pretty amazing.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Wow, that's horrible.

How is that horrible? 85% is really good.

... Offhand, I donated what I could, which is $20. Once I get my stipend I will try to help more.

85% said no. Don't you mean '15% is really good'?

Haha, I read it as the opposite. I'm still not awake. Or I have newfound dyslexia!

... At any rate, that's definitely not good, but two things:

a) It's an Internet poll

b) Real numbers are probably nothing like that

If in reality, 85% were to donate money, that'd be amazing. Most Americans are strapped for cash this time of year, with lots of debt. If I saw those kind of figures in real-life, I think my jaw would drop.

I hope as many people donate money as they can, though.

Eh, I killed a CD order and went with free shipping, then put it all towards $30 into Amazon's digital kettle for the people who need money more than I need a stupid sountrack.

(December spending, as expected, utterly raped me.)

But, it makes me feel good that Amazon alone has collected USD $12,328,310.00. My faith in most Americans is restored, but probably only for a few days or so.

I'm not doing the Amazon thing, I gave my usual daily donation to Amor En Accion. The flood in Haiti was pretty devastating as well. But it's good to see people donating so much, it's a very good cause. PEACE.

+1 million

Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.

Costco is collecting money for Red Cross also. Had a giant clear box for ppl to slip money in. The one I went to was pretty empty. Don't know how long that's been up though. Hope it'll fill up consideriing how rich some of the ppl in cupertino area is and how many ppl here are from the countries hit by the tsunami.

I wonder how much money was donated to the US by the rest of the world when the hurricanes in Florida devastated thousands of homes.

Why?
Stop comparing disasters!

The areas hit by the tsunami aren't exactly rolling in money.

So did you or CloudNL open your wallets to help the families who are now homeless in FL? I'm going to donate for the tsunami relief as I did with the FL hurricanes, but I just wanted to comment on how everyone suddenly feels charitable now cause it seems like "TSUNAMI DONATIONS" is the hip new thing that everyone's doing, when real charity should occur all the time, and not just when it's popular.

I contribute what I can, when I can. The specifics of what charities and organizations I may or may not give to outside of the one for which this topic is named is, frankly, none of your damned business. You're the one dragging out the measuring stick, which I personally find rather sickening. A disaster is a disaster, in an ideal world no one should have to die because of inadequate warning systems, or shoddy construction. But it's not an ideal world, so these things tend to happen.

Now, I refuse to be party to this thread turning into some kind of good will dick measuring contest. If you donated to both the families in Florida AND the tsunami victims, hey, go you. But chastising others for not donating to [random disaster relief here] AND the current crisis is petty beyond all previous definitions of the word.

This guy speaks the truth!
And I hope DJ Demon J that you know that the US Goverment gave billions of dollars for the families in Florida (more than they gave to the tsunami victims). So stop complaining!
