That Megaman clip is great. I think maybe the guy's script said "Rockman" and he had to remember to change it. It sounds like he's saying "rr...Megaman!".

No way to explain "Dr. Wowliey" though.
 
Oh yes. The Megaman 8 voices were so fucked up. Roll had a deeper voice than Megaman and Dr Light was voiced by Elmer Fudd.
 
Are the same voices used in the Megaman Anniversary Collection version of MM8? That would probably make it worth picking up.

In Japanese horror films or manga or whatnot, if a girl is being advanced upon by a monster she'll yell KONAIDE, which literally translates to "do not come [over here]." Translators with even a TINY DROP of common sense would, of course, translate this as "Get away from me!"

We played a lot of House of the Dead 2, my friends in Japan and I. We made a lot of jokes about the dialogue. Only later did one of my friends tell me that his girlfriend actually DID yell that out during sex once.

It probably worked.

It's like fucking Shakespeare compared to some of the other shit on that site. I could have recorded better dialogue for the entirety of Mega Man 8, all by myself, in one take.

That website is great. I wish I had known about it sooner. That Megaman 8 clip brought back fond memories of laughing at the game with my friends. Damn that was awful. I've got to find out if that clip is in the Megaman Collection.

The only bad thing about that site is its lack of games in the index. It's not a poor selection, and it's far better than nothing, but I wish it was a bit more comprehensive.

You missed the best part of Winback, then! The voiced scenes are a RIOT of bad acting, questionable writing, and bizarre pacing. One of my favorite "bad acting" games. Just the mention of it brings a smile to my face.

Just commenting on a thread that predated my arrival. Didn't know it was even discussed here until I did a search. I could have kicked in with about eight or nine of the messages in the thread, but I just did one. C'mon! It was about Winback! It's teh awesome! Chill, baby baby, chill, baby baby, chill...
 
Great story about dialogue in House of the Dead. A friend of mine who worked with Sega localization once explained to me how it's recorded. The voice actors don't read from a script -- they read their lines from a SPREADSHEET. Organized in no particular order.

So one of the reasons the acting is so fucked is that the actors don't actually know what context or sequence their lines are meant to appear in. They're just reading 'em off a quip at a time ^_^

Which begs the question as to why the lines weren't further organized after the transfer to the spreadsheet...
