Download patches

From this quote... but there's no link.

To play Halo 2 on Xbox Live, you will need a current Xbox Live or Xbox Live Gold account. To activate the “hi-res” modes of Halo and Halo 2, for Xbox Live members (either Gold or Silver members), just connect your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live and insert an original Xbox game. The system will automatically check if you have the latest emulation software, download it to your Xbox 360 console as part of a system update if you don't, reboot, and start loading your original Xbox game.
Those who are not part of the Xbox Live network will be able to download the emulators from Xbox.com, and burn them onto a CD to insert into your Xbox 360 where it will auto-install the emulator. Or you can go to Xbox.com and simply sign up for a CD to be sent to your home for a nominal shipping and handling fee.

Okay this is just bullshit. If the Xbox 360 can so easily run burned software, it leaves the door right open to hackers and modders to run homebrew software on the console.

No way this is happening.

what....

you can burn music to CDs for 360... Why is this so hard for you to believe?

Because music CDs are not software and operate on a completely different standard. There is no way in hell Microsoft would allow an executable running from a CD-R to boot on the Xbox 360. If it did, then any hacker could create an executable to run homebrew code, such as emulators and loaders for pirated software. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Because they have already stated xbox 360 will be able to use burn CDs and other usb storage devices to put content on your 360. including XBE.

That is official. I saw the same thing on the Japanese BC list site about them mailing a CD-R with BC patches.

Yep, official

Xbox.com: How will you deliver the emulators for backward compatibility?

Todd: There are several different ways that you can get them:

For Xbox Live members (either Gold or Silver members), just connect your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live and insert an original Xbox game. What was that again AtomicShroom?... "There is no way in hell Microsoft would allow...."

knowledge is the key :lol

I read dialup and non-xboxlive users will be able to download patches through www.xbox.com and use USB memory sticks or burn them to CDs to load on 360.

I went to www.xbox.com and cant find this option....is it not setup yet?

Yeah right. But it's only backwards compatibility patches, not other contents (ie game patches). I presume the page for downloading them will be put online around the launch day.

And yes, this could surely open a door to hackers. We'll see if and how they'll be able to use it ;-)

This is something you dont know. If game patches are allowed on OXM demo discs I dont see why they wouldn't allow it through www.xbox.com.. since now they have the infrastructure setup to allow something like this.

Yeah.. so if these can autorun from USB/CD-R, there is definately a window of oppertunity for hackers to get in there. I'm guessing they're going to create installers that mimick a BC upgrade but instead modify the Dashboard/install other software.

I don't think it's going to be worth it to risk homebrew on the 360 unless you buy a spare HD which you don't plan on using XBL with (perfectly viable).

If it was confirmed that you could easily softmod your box with a fake executable, I'd buy another hard drive and create an offline profile for all my homebrew needs.
