DPD (God awful UK delivery service)

A dispatcher of exotic fruit used this company to bring me rare fruit. Only they didn't bother coming.

The first time was that they supposedly missed me. A croc of nonsense, but I figured it can occasionally happen. So one Friday I downloaded their app and was in my flat, seated near the door. There was a few occasions where the driver was near to my accommodation and could have attempted a delivery, but didn't make the delivery. I seen this on the tracker. Then eventually, he ended business for the day. But I did wait.

Eventually, I got my fruit, but had to deliver it to my family's house, who reside in a main door. I'm in a block of flats. Half of it had gone brownish as it was like a week late. This fruit is exceptionally rare, so you can only get it from specialists. Monk Fruit. Hala Fruit. Sugar Apples. Etc.

Lately, I had the same problem with DPD, as Amazon uses second hand sellers. Normally, Amazon has their own reliable couriers, and you get goods quickly if you're a Prime customer.

So this DPD are absolutely blooming hopeless. They're gonna state that they gave you a delivery slot by text. Sometimes separate ones for some reason. Then they'll say a delivery was attempted, or that they "missed" you. How can this be? If you're indoors, you ought to know if this effort was attempted. It's really all down to lazy, unprofessional drivers.

People registered on TrustPilot always give them 1 star as they cannot give them zero instead. Unfortunately, I cannot choose who's delivering my stuff, you see. Meh.

Utter bollocks. :(

This is incredibly surprising to hear as DPD is the best courier service available in the UK. That's coming from multiple websites who rate them near the top and my own personal experiences with the brand. They deliver extremely quickly and packages are never damaged or lost. You want to see "god awful delivery service" then go check out MyHermes, Yodel, Collect+ and then come back crying to me.

What kind of fruit are we talking here

Indian (Amla) gooseberries. Star Fruit. Bat Nuts. Dragon Fruit. Longans. Etc.

I have never seen this in any stores here. I mind of seeing pink Dragon Fruit in Asda, but I'm talking years ago. Custard Apples are nice too, but they are awkward to eat. They contain dozens of black seeds.

Eggfruit is nice. It has a bit of a toffee like aroma to it.

I try to get loads as a few items chalk up in price.

I think UPS are the best.

FedEX are fucking hopeless.

They've had my package in their shipping depot for 3 days and haven't bothered to deliver to my house yet. Their depot is only a 10-15 min drive from my house.

I like DPD. Easy to see what time it'll arrive, get a notification when the driver is 30 mins away and then next stop, divert to a neighbour etc. Convenient. Only problem is if they can't deliver at all, it's a right trek to the depot (compared to RM).
In my old address 4 years ago, DPD were the best.

In my current address, I would rather have anybody else deliver! I think it all depends on your location.
This too. For example I've never had an issue with Hermes/eVRi where I live but that's because our local delivery lady is competent. Many others are not, hence their reputation.

Karen fruit.

OP, be grateful it wasn't Hermes or Yodel.
Correct answer. DPD are great. If you want stuff to arrive days or even weeks late, get left in the rain outside someone else's house or just get stolen in transit then yodel and hermes are the ones for you!

The free service where they throw it on a roof and don't tell you (other than marking it as 'delivered') is my favourite.

I've never had issues with DPD, and when I was working for a retail company that shipped item we used to free upgrade people from Herpes to DPD because we wanted people to actually get their items.

DPD has things like tracking, so it usually means reliability. A much better service than your clothes allegedly being damaged in transit but also not being returned to the warehouse, then you having to wait for a month of no contact from Hermes before the company you ordered from can even begin processing your refund.

i was about to comment saying this too.

previous house they were very reliable. i never wanted my parcels to be handled by anyone else. since moving any time i have had dpd deliver there have been issues. royal mail and amazon are the best now by far at least in my experience.

hermes are god fucking awful. i hate them. thankfully i've not had any deliveries with them recently. i'd rather dpd deliver than them. at least with dpd i have some idea wtf is going on. hermes are like "oh we dont have your parcel!" then they are like "hmm we might have your parcel....or maybe we don't!" then a week later they are all "lol jkin we had your parcel all along!". fucking useless so they are.

And when there is inevitably an issue you're on their website sitting in the wait for a web chat because there's no phone number. At least there wasn't when I last had a problem.

Hermes rebranded, right? Even Tesco have their return machines in stores now. You know a company is trying to avoid a bad reputation when they change their name to something completely different.

To be honest, delivery services in the UK tend to all be sub par.
It's nothing efficient as what we have in Germany.

DPD are by far best delivery service. They give you 1 hour tracking window so you no when expect. They also tell you how many stops it's a away from and if you have the app give you notification right before your stop.

I happily pay extra to get things delivered by DPD.

You pay a little more with DPD in contrast to other courier services, but that little more is worth the peace of mind.
