Dr. Wily: "While"+e, "Will"+e, or "Why"+Lee

Bass - The fish, or the low pitch?

Capcom decided to go with the former in Mega Man 8, IIRC.
Even though he had a robot dog named Treble! :P

I'm not saying Capcom's localizations aren't fucking retarded, I'm just... what am I saying? Oh:

DON'T BE LIKE CAPCOM. USE GOOD ENGLISH.

<Orin_Exsu> in the japanese mega man zero calls him exsu
<EAsp0rsk> there is no x in the japanese alphabet, orin
<Orin_Exsu> ...

there is no h-sound in wily, to put it in chinese, it would be wai-lee

And out of the blue another.

Wait why would it be pronounced Wily in anything but English? Presumably other languages are other languages, right?
Same goes for Guile, but how many people pronounced it "gully"? Dan is a sticky one though. i always use the English pronunciation, as i've never known his name to be pronounced with the Japanese pronunciation outside of Japan and annoying J-otaku.

"why" + lee
proof: PSone Books ロックマン2 Dr.ワイリーの謎

And arguing about romanization of Japanese is always an exercise in futility.

There's no L in Chinese, Dice.

(see?)

Well, with Wily being in Katakana (like Rockman and the rest of the crew) it's not like the English is altered from being something completely different in Japanese.

That's unless Wily and Wai-Ree really are fully dissimilar to you. ;)
