Draft Time: What's your X-Men fantasy team?

Not open for further replies.
A day off of work spent downloading new Freedom Force meshes/keyframes/skins (luv you Courtnall, you're a freakin' god!), coupled with the inevitable boredom arising from performing said downloading on 56k, can put some pretty silly notions into your head. Like this thread, for instance. It's something I've been thinking about for the last few hours, and I don't think I'll be able to let it go until I inflict it upon all of you.

Soooooooooo...

My X-Men Dream Team
Cyclops: the quintessential X-Men team leader. I don't really like him, but he's gotta be there.
Wolverine: what's an X-Men without Wolverine? Xavier may have started it all, but Logan embodies this team more than any other mutant.
Phoenix (Jean Grey): isn't it funny how Marvel repeatedly kills her, then immediately replaces her with a clone/rival/daughter? ...Yeah, not to me either.
Iceman: versatility, juvenile humor, and cool (pun intended) powers to exploit. What's not to love?
Storm: not the mothering, stuck-up b*tch she became mind you, but the mohawk-sporting badass of old.
Nightcrawler: just as funny, charming, and acrobatic as the Beast, but with teleportation powers as well and religious beliefs to play with.
Colossus: every team needs a strongman to smash stuff (it's a union thing I think), and the mutants broke the mold with Petey here.
Shadowcat: sorry Jubilee fans, but Kitty was Logan's first and BEST underage sidekick.
Rogue: she was such an awesome, conflicted, sassy character before they saddled her with that Cajun crumbum...

Now, what's your fantasy team?

---------------------------------------------------------------

Rules (because what's a thread like this without rules for you guys to ignore):

1. Only choose mutants that have served on an X- affliated team in the past. X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur, New Mutants, etc. alumni are all fair game.

2. No supervillains unless they've "switched teams" at some point (NOTE: AoA and other non- "616" good/evil reversals don't count).

3. No non-mutant heroes will be accepted (go home, Spidey!).

4. Professor X doesn't count (leaves you free to pick someone else!).

5. The maximum # of mutants on your dream team: 12. No more. Hey, we all gotta make sacrifices.

1. Beyonder
2. Batman

the end

There were X-Man in Secret Wars II, and Batman was merged with Wolverine in Amalgam, so it technically counts.

Anyway, I was kidding...

I'd probably just have the team from Giant Size X-Men, minus the indian guy. Seems like a good team to me.

And Storm would have the mohawk, just because.

ps: and Batman.

The new X-Men:

cockrum-xmenpic.jpg

+ Shadowcat (She was part of the above team, anyway. Youth is good.)
+ Beast (The team lacks a big brain)
+ Mimic (The line-up would benefit from another "troubled" member. Plus, the X-Men need another wildcard. I'm referring to the original Mimic, btw. Not the one from Exiles.)

Cyclops
Phoenix
Wolverine
Iceman
Cable
Beast
Magneto (although, to be honest, I stopped reading X-Men/comics in general after Onslaught ended but I heard something like Joseph was just a clone or whatever.)
White Queen
Colossus
Rogue
Nightcrawler
+ extra

I believe that this team would be able to handle almost any situation or villain.

Nightcrawler
Cyclops
Colossus
Storm
Wolvie
Prof. X
Phoenix

Maybe Beast can come too. Cuz I think he's funny.

PS: My ideal Xmen team has no more than 6 or 7 members. I like stories that focus on fewer characters.

Nightcrawler
Wolverine
Storm
Shadowcat
Colossus
Cyclops - I guess, though I think Kurt is a much more interesting character and he has been 'leader' of various x teams
Beast
Rogue

Awesome Pacheco image. Is that from a poster or a comic cover? Any higher resolution?

As for my fantasy team, just some of my favorite characters:

Storm as leader (non X-Treme version)

Psylocke (Jim Lee Era)
Bishop
Rogue (non X-Treme version)
Gambit
Jubilee
Longshot
Iceman
Archangel
Marrow
Dr Cecelia Reyes
Colossus

Y'know those oversized "Ultimate Guide" children's books that DK Publishing puts out? That's where I remember first seeing it, though it's probably from something else. It's also available as a poster, apparently; I got this .jpg from one of those online poster retailers.

If you can find a higher res version, and post it here, then I'd like to give you a virtual hand... shake. I looked for one last night for about 1/2 an hour to no avail.

Professor X since he can apparently kill all mutants instantly
Magneto because he's apparently the only one intelligent enough to build a defense against Professor X and can rebuild cerebro
Jean Gray because she could possibly counter Professor X as well as being ludicrously powerful

Oh and since I can't draft Professor X I'll just grab Jason since he seems particularly adept at doing so.

I'll fill the rest of the roster with lesser mutants because I pretty much have the mutant equivalent of a WMD and no one would dare attack me :D

It's hard to argue with this lineup. And the comments about Kurt.

Nightcrawler, because he's my favorite
Shadowcat, becuase she'll ensure not all the stories are just fights
Banshee, becuase he doesn't get enough love
Cyclops, becuase he's *the* X-man
Havok, because he looks cool, and brother-dynamics can be interesting
Angel (Classic) becuase every team needs a playboy millionaire
Iceman to be Angel's foil
Beast, becuase he's charming. Blue Ape look, please.
Phoenix (at some reasonable power-level cap)
Blink, becuase she's be out-of-place and interesting for that. And becuase I like Exiles.

I'm biased towards the originals + my favorites from the Claremont/Byrne era. Almost nobody introduced later (or joining the team later) interest me, except for Blink.

I'm burnt out on Storm and Wolvie, and Colossus never really grabbed me.

Keep in mind I stopped reading comics right around the time Lee and Claireborne(sp) left X-Men

Cyclops: I've always liked him yet hated the way his portrayed in the movies (think late era X-factor)

Phoenix: Because jean HAS to be there and the Phoenix version Imo was the best

Colossus: Another of my favs (token smash guy check)

Wolverine: Cause he's Logan damn it , driving his bike out to a random bar and getting wasted

Nightcrawler: AWESOME character alot of depth

Iceman: great powers neve really used properly imo

Kitty Pride: Cause she rocks and we need two girls

whoa with the exception of iceman/storm this is the line up from the Dark phoenix saga my favorite Xmen book.

Team A:
Nightcrawler
Wolverine
Psylocke
Angel
Beast
Jean Grey

Team B:
Storm
Forge
Shadowcat
Collosus
Longshot
Rogue

eh, I really liked Jim Lees team back in the day.

Rogue
Kitty
Colossus
Punk Rock Storm
Nightcrawler
Jean
Psylocke (British or Asian without the genericness)
Iceman
Beast
Wolverine (not so much, hanging out at the bar is ok)
U-Go Girl ^^

Ya most of mine is from a certain time but whatever. Also less big fights more hanging out talking and goofing off and stuff.

Prof Xavier - Head honcho
Iceman - <3 Bobby he's awesome when he wants to be, but mostly for comic relief and a more "family" feel
Beast - Brains that can go into the field
Cyclops - Every team needs a boyscout
Wolverine - " " " " badass with a troubled past
Jean Grey - eye candy for the Professor
Storm - Good second in command and she's able to keep Logan in check
Nightcrawler - level headed, but doesn't take himself too seriously
Colossus- Fastball launcher...yeah, that's all...ok and mandatory strong guy
Shadowcat - the team's youth
Gambit - for when editors turn down another "Wolverine's troubled past" story :P

Nightcrawler, Beast, Cable, Magneto, Colossus, Wolverine, Jean Grey (without all the Phoenix stuff), Old-school Rogue, and just to be safe, Nightcrawler again. :)

Starters:
Cyke (Blue and yellow '91 version, or X-Factor version minus the skull cap)- Leader in the field.

Cable - Additional leadership and tactics...but mainly, blow sh*t up. Ok, a little telekinetic stuff here and there, but really, stick to the blowing sh*t up. It makes me giddy.

Psylocke (Asian, wants to screw Cyke version please)- Psychic stuff and sex. And the repeated explanation of her Psychic Knife as "the focused totality of her psychic powers." Note: I will be willing to accept Kwannon IF, and only IF, she's willing to adopt Psylocke's position as Team: Trunks' sex symbol.

Gambit - Style! Don't be hatin'! Sure, we'll have contract disputes, but he'll play like an all-pro!

Shatterstar - A true warrior. Brings his heart and leaves it all on the field! Literally.

Domino - more blowing up of the sh*t...but, with breasts! Kidding. Delete that selection.

Quicksilver or Meanstreak (X-Men 2099) - We need speed demons in this outfit...and these are like the only two I can think of. I'm leaning toward Pietro just because of how bad-@$$ and condescending he is...and because Krystal had to tell him to "slow down." **wink wink** Staminator?

Havok - When a suit has to contain your power, you are officially the sh*t! Leadership stuff too.

Rogue - Strong, hot, invulnerable, can fly, taking other peole's powers....but she has mental problems....I may need to get Psylocke to whip out that psychic knife...after the psychic-sex we have...I could exchange with Colossus, but, to quote the great Alton Brown of "Good Eats" - "There is no room for uni-taskers in my kitchen." Or on my team.

Equipment Manager:
Forge - Builds stuff to blow sh*t up with. Builds stuff like jets and everything.

Wife (non-vote as she's not part of the team):
Storm - Leadership, beauty, regality, power...and she could do that fighting thing away from her conjugal duties, I guess, if one of the 12 died....

Head Coach:
Magneto - This can't possibly need explanation. I would get you in on a technicality, the league would protest but damn it....you were an X-Man.

Assistant Coach:
Beast - Brains and brawn, and an ounce of civility to the chaos my dream team would wreak.

GM (doesn't count):
Prof X - Buffed up early 90's version por favor....IN the wheelchair!

Team Owner - Future Trunks ($$$)

Missed the cut:
Polaris - with Magneto, who needs you?
Iceman - you're cool, but, I mean, look at the starters! You had no chance of making the team! We'll claim you for practice squad once you clear waivers.
Multiple Man - see Iceman
Strong Guy - Guido rocks...but, you weren't strong enough.... :(
Jean Grey/Phoenix/Marvel Girl/Etc... - Which version of you am I getting?? I mean, one minute you're strong, one you're weak. One minute you're dead, then you're back as someone else! One you're devouring planets, the next you're fainting from lifting a pencil telekinetically...we have no place for inconsistent players on my team, Bub.
Wolverine - Speaking of "Bub!" I don't like you. Yeah, you're powerful and Brian Dawkins thinks he's you (WTF?), but I've never been your fan...get the hell off my field! And I don't need you mackin' on EVERY X-Woman within range of your manly musk scent. (That's my job. :)...to get the women that is)
Colossus - It's been all downhill since your brother died (didn't he come back?)....then Illyana...then you...then you came back....yeah, practice squad.
Stevie Hunter - Non-mutant, Spike says we can never be. Blame him! I-I will always think of you. :*(
Kitty Pryde -
Dazzler - Once you got the costume change and started dating Longshot, you were awesome. Practice Squad. You even made the cartoon!
Longshot - I dig you man, but without Mojo to make your adventures that much more entertaining...
Jubilee - I have a soft spot for you. Watergirl? Okay, okay, practice squad.
Franklin Richards - Spike, our league commisioner said no-non-X-Team guys....but wait! didn't he help out with the Onslaught thing?! :o Change my picks! Change my picks! Doesn't count? Awww.... :(
Gladiator - see Franklin Richards. :*( Gladiator's so cool....

I'll have to edit in more cuts later.

NOTE: These are mainly jokes, I could NEVER make a serious attempt at selecting only 12 X-People....

Oh, do you have to ask? *devilish grin*

JEAN GREY!(Duh)
Storm
Iceman
Wolverine(honorable 3-Dimensional Claremontian version...not corporate whore 50 appearances each month version)
Cyclops
Polaris
Shadowcat
Beast
Meggan
Dazzler
Magik(Illyana Rasputin version, not Amada Stefon(?) aka Daytripper aka Nightcrawler's old standby)
Rogue
