Dragon Quest 8 officially announced for US

DQ8 is a lot like DQ7, except it isn't. I donno how to precisely explain it; there's a lot of traits they share but handle nearly 100% differently.

Let's just say that you don't have to wait 30 hours to start using skill/job techniques or to get a full four-person party, and I'm still thankful that, except for one minor exception, once you get your party assembled it stays that way until the end of the game.

Meanwhile, the only negatives I see with DQ8 are the reused music and the way the overworld can get choked up sometimes (field of visibility mostly makes up for it)... battles can get sluggish sometimes too if you're fighting against 8+ monsters.

... meanwhile what I'm more concerned with is the supposed "extra content" the US version of the game will have.

Good, but I think we all knew about this.

NOW WHERE IS DRAGON QUEST V MOTHERFUCKERS!?

Most worthless merger EVER.

after a disspointing 2004, S-E is looking forward to a spectacular 2005. DQVIII, FFXII, and KH2 are all going to be released stateside this year.

this about sums it up:

I think it was after they were able to get the Dragon Quest trademark in the states.

Hopefully with DQ VIII we'll get a better translation than VII. There were so many grammar and spelling mistakes in VII's translation.

thank god they've finally straightened out the title nonsense. no more dragon warrior.

well, I would've thought they'd want to hang on to however many strands of brand recognition they had left. oh wait square's name is on the box, now it is the godly game for sure

This merger definitely sucked. It seems like they aren't even releasing as many games as Square did by themselves in the PSX era. If EoA were still in business, we'd be playing DQM:CH, DQV, and probably even Slime Mori Mori.

I probably would've bought all three of those games too. :(

DQV and DQM:CH especially. DQ VII character, and it takes place in the DQ II world? I'd be sold!

If DQ8 is popular, they'll probably put out DQ5 later. They're both big projects to localize. If DQ8 doesn't sell, what makes you think DQ5 will?

They should save DQ5 for a bundle, maybe with a similar PS2 DQ6 remake if Arte Piazza/ChunSoft/Matrix Software ever do it. And they should talk to Nintendo about maybe releasing Slime Morimori or Caravan Heart alongside DQ8 this summer for a little cross promotion and brand expansion. The GBC DW/DWM games were pretty good sellers actually, usually 100-300k.

Square seems alot more prolific post-merger, not even including Enix games.
Comparing to the drought between TSW - merger.
