Dungeon Siege II Review [Spoiler: It's Good!]

Dungeon Siege II is probably one of the best action RPG's on the shelves right now. If you enjoy fast paced Diablo-esque gameplay, this is definitely a game to pick up. Don't be fooled by it's easy gameplay. The way you develop your skills and the party members you assemble will influence gameplay just as much as equipping the right weapons or spells will. DS2 is a joy to play either alone in single player mode or in multiplayer. These two concepts don't have to be separate, since single player parties can be imported straight into multiplayer!

The demo was quite good which suprised me considering how much I dislike the original.

Totally agree. DS(1) is the game at the top of my "When good developers go bad" list.

But the demo played like Diablo 2 + a little more everything (I thought anyway), nice to hear the whole game holds up, Definitely putting this on pre-order now.

I saw that the special edition has a Dark Horse comic spin-off with it...has anyone heard anything about that?

:D
Diablo-esque

Whenever a game is compared as Diablo-like, that worries me because it sounds like a Diablo clone and we all know Diablo clones come no where near to being as good as the real thing.

I dug the first Dungeon Siege, but this II demo I found to be a piece of crap. It would have been good 5 years ago, but it didn't offer anything new.

Actually, piece of crap might be too strong. It wasn't that bad. Maybe just a dingleberry.

My main problem with the first game was the huge lack of any item variety and very ho-hum item mods. I hope that has been fixed atleast.

The demo had oodles of weapons, and it seems like all the rare ones have different glowy particle effects on them. The item system is pretty much identical to diablo 2.

I didnt dig that 1up review, they said that it played like diablo but it was too frantic (diablo wasnt?), and they said theres no point leading with anything but a fighter because you get pumelled, but in the demo it was easy to play a ranged character, you just had to back up if baddies came after you (Just like Diablo).

I can see the point that it IS basically diablo but 5 years too late. Gameplay is still fun for me though.

That review is wrong. The game is terrible.
this II demo I found to be a piece of crap.
The first one got great reviews too. Sorry but I wont be fooled again.
Looks like someone agrees with you:

Comrade AI is a killer in Dungeon Siege II--literally. Way too often, your party members will decide to attack a target that strategically makes little or no sense, and might even be far away from the enemy you're working on. This "Divide an conquer" works some rare times, but more often than not, it's not the best way to clear out the baddies. With strong ones, it can even get you into trouble. Maybe this wouldn't even be such a big problem if your party members thought to take a defensive or heal themselves once in a while, but don't count on that happening. It's like your comrades are just programmed to go attack something until one of the two combatants is dead, using no thought or tactic.

Someone didnt read the instructions.

Im not saying DS2 is perfect but thats just incorrect. Theres two ai settings, one that lets the ai rampage off (for the rooms full of easy enemies) and one that makes them copy everything you do. and theres very little point making them heal themselves when one tap of the potion button makes everyone in the party who needs a potion use one.

It's a little bit better then DS1, but not much more. Game is really easy on normal. Rampage is useless. Stick with Mirror mode for grouping attack routine. Finally, the story is linear and pretty much not worth mentioning.

Rampage useless?

I used it all the time in Act I (on the little goblins) and II (fucking wasps), hell I even had it on during the whole Act III.
Mirror mode on the other hand IS useless - I switched it on only during boss battles (Dark Wizards, tree-guy, Talon, Archmage, Valdis), when fighting mimics and of course on the Aman'lu Arena.

DS2 is the best Diablo game since Diablo 2: LoD came out. I'm currently moving through veteran diff. and having a blast. The Dwarven King's set ROCKS!
