Dungeons and Dragons Online

Yeah, I'm diggin' this game...but the interface for chat SUCKS. It's just so cumbersome compared to anything else that has been released in the last couple of years...in-game voice chat is pretty much the only thing saving the game communication from being totally lame. And why no tooltips showing item statistics? Pressing the a key to kick it in is just stupid in 2006. Otherwise, the game is pretty cool...

Got my cleric up to level 2 and am having a pretty fun time in small groups doing the rest of the harbor quests and just messed around with Waterworks before figuring out that having a rogue would be a bit more than just good for opening some doors for your group... Some of the traps are nasty in there.

Don't even attempt the 4th Wetworks quest without a Rogue.

There's an AWESOME trap in there where it's this giant pipe you need to walk through. But this pipe is lined on the inside by smaller pipes that are firing crossing streams of poison. The only safe way through it is to have a Rogue with high dodge roll and dodge his way past the steams and turn off the valves throughout the pipe so the rest of the group can get through. It's like the furnace scene in The Rock.

Is it true you end up having to do the same dungeons over and over again?

Not really. But you can repeat them for additional exp/items. Once you beat a dungeon on normal it unlocks a "hard" version of it. Beat it on "hard" and it unlocks the "elite" version. The only time I've repeated dungeons is when someone in the group needs to do the quest the first time.

So can you coutinue to advance if you just do one dungeon after another or do they expect you to stop on one and do it 10 times to level up.

No, each time you repeat a dungeon on the same difficulty it gives you a negative exp penalty on the final experience sum for the dungeon up to -90%. So you need to keep doing other dungeons and quests to level up the fastest. And there are a lot. I'm level 3 and I still haven't finished all the quests and raids in the Harbor and I already have access to the Market area and that's full of quests.

The game is live!

Couple shots I just took:

I like the detail of "DM Text", is worth?

How are the controls? Maybe I will give this a shot while I expect Conan or D&L

The DM voice-overs add a nice flavor to the game, I think...though I wish I knew how to turn off the text update in the chat..clutters it up a little.

The controls are just like WoW/FPS, with shift being your active blocking...and, in conjunction with WASD keys, dodging/rolling actions. Having fun w/ it, but I still wonder about the long-term worth with the sub. price factored in. Very cool group-playability.

Did you ever play Asheron's Call? Turbine does massive world changing updates every month. The first DDO one is going to be a Red Dragon quest with Gary Gygax doing the DM voice over.

I don't care. I haven't had this much fun since UO and EQ Beta.*

*in groups that is. You need a full group with all members using voice chat for the most fun.

Note to all reading the thread:

Manabyte will play and celebrate any new MMORPG, if he does end up not liking them he just stops mentioning them.

Morphix is filthy rich from a lawsuit settlement and has no better way to spend his money other than becoming the first privately owned Best Buy Outlet.

Now re-read their posts.
