Tiamat was always barging in and strutting around like she owned the place

Poor guy was always getting foiled by kids, and chased away by tiamat.

wait, what?

I used to love this show as a kid, sadly it only had a run of 27 episodes and was cancelled during the 3rd season. The reason it was cancelled is still in debate (I guess?) Network exec's say it was due to slipping rating, others say violence ( I believe it was called the most viloent cartoon at that time), still others say it was due to the witchhunt of D&D's and it's association to the occoult (sp?) at that time, link to the anti-D&D propaganda below, probably a mixture of them all.

Although never aired Staff Writer Michael Reeves wrote the series finale to the series but it was never created into an episode, link to the script below. I liked the script, I think it was a pretty good way to end things.

There is a fan made project where they are attepting to create the final episode using michael reaves requiem script. at http://www.requiemproject.org on the site they have some incomplete storyboards, and trailer below is a link to the trailer in quicktime

I seem to remember one episode near the end of the run in which everybody but that one guy who was an ass (second from the left in your first pic) was able to leave the D&D world and get back into the amusement park. But then they went back to get him(?) and got stuck there again. Poor guys.

:lol I remember that! That's about the only thing I remember from this cartoon... the annoying guy, and the Land of the Lost storyline approach.

I remember the Dragon's Lair cartoon more than this one, where the narrator would make the viewer decide what Dirk should do right before the commercial. I don't think this cartoon lasted very long, but videogame cartoons were bigtime in the early '80s. :)

Yeah that was eric the cavalier, he used to always get into fights with bobby the barbarian he's the kid of the bunch. Good times.

Loved it, one of my all-time favorite cartoons. It's one of the reasons i'm such a fantasy/sci-fi nut now.
I remember they showed it on Fox Kids in the afternoon about 5 years ago and tried to tape them, but missed alot 8(

I want to be Elfstar in Dark Dungeons now. I'd be much better than Debbie.

I loved that show as a kid, did that get announced for a dvd release awhile back? Maybe its even out now....hopefully it was not all just a dream..

I always found it amusing that Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) voiced Venger, while Frank Welker (Megatron) voiced the kids' unicorn. Talk about shifting roles...

Dungeons and Dragons was fucking awesome. Best cartoon ever.

Uni could just go away and die though. My sister and I, when we were really young had the episode where Venger blasts her, we used to freeze frame the impact and laugh. Those were good times.

The episode where some wizard wants unicorn horns and the winds of darkness RTBO too.

I remember seeing this cartoon in the 80's and being completely blown away. I didn't think anything was in it's league...it seemed to have an epic quality and feel that was world's apart from any other cartoon that was on.

Then I saw an episode on Fox a few years ago and was shocked by how completely shitty it looked. South Park has better animation.

So er, yeah...I guess my nolstagia got owned in this instance. :lol

This show had some well written episodes.

One of my favorites is "Dungeon at the Heart of Dawn". Eric opens a box that unleashes this demon that starts to obliterate the entire D&D realm. Venger ends up bowing before this demonic force and acknowledges the entity as master. Dungeon Master has to gather all of the kids weapons togethers to try to stop this entity, in the process he drains all the power from the weapons. The weapons have to be recharged and they have to fight their to a magical well where they can be recharged.

I recommend to everyone to watch the episode "Dungeon at the Heart of Dawn". But a lot of the episodes were really good.

speaking of D&D, i remember there used to be some homeless cat-lady type that would hang out at a fast food place in the vicinity of the neighborhood for like hours and move on to the next burger place until they closed. she told all the kids she saw to stay away from D&D because it was evil.

i complied with her advice

Doh! I stand corrected.

To be honest, I never played 1st edition and thus the acrobat was something that always bugged me about the show... but now that I know it was in 1st edition, my appreciation for the show has risen. :D

In 1st edition AD&D, there was an Acrobat class (subclass of Thief, IIRC)...

AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A FAN

Thief-Acrobat actually, but not until Unearthed Arcana came out. Incidentally, Barbarian and Cavalier were also in there. I always wondered why Bobby had a magic weapon when Barbarians couldn't even associate with mages/clerics/any magic until something like 5th level.

edit: please don't tell me that any of these kids were high level adventurers :lol

\/\/ yeah i'm pretty sure that the UA classes were from Dragon articles. Not sure about all of them, hell I was only like 5 when the book came out.

Yeah, and I think the Thief-Acrobat was printed in some magazine (Dragon?) long before it was in UA.

I agree, the show was very well written and had a lot of depth to them rarely ever seen in US cartoon. The first two seasons especially were amazing.

IIRC barbarians could use magic weapons once they reached a certain level. I think they were about midrange level, around 7-10, they were always taking on venger, tiamat and other pretty powerful monsters like hydra's.

Yeah I actually wanted to be a thief-acrobat but they had like the worst abilities, it been close to 20 (christ I'm old) years so my memory might be a bit fuzzy, they had tightrope walking, ability to fall from heights without/minimizing damage, and pole vaulting:lol or was it high jumping.

But blackleaf is dead, blackleaf doesn't exist anymore!
