I wish I could hat you to death
Are there any programs like that where you can just make menus and shit for like the ones in DVD movie for other media formats. All of course without having to encode avi/divx/quicktime to mpeg-2

I don't think this is possible without either going for SVCD (uber crappy sub-VHS quality) or programming your own menu-shell (i.e. in C or something).

Why not encode to MPEG-2 and just make it a DVD?

What's the best way to convert avi to mpeg-2? I swear it takes forever.

Use VirtualDub, make sure you've got the codecs you need. Remember, AVI itself is just a shell for many different codecs -- your file could be in divx, xvid, Indeo, etc.

Google for a VritualDub tutorial, there are some good ones out there.
