DVD Repair

I bought a used DVD last night that ended up being unplayable at a few points, perhaps due to a knick I found on the disc. Before I exchange it, is there anything I can try (for free) to repair it and save myself a trip?

It's a box set and only one out of seven discs is affected, and I fear that an exchange might just get me errors on another disc.

Try soapy water and then wipe it dry with a soft, clean cloth. Make sure the cloth is clean otherwise it'll just scratch the disc even more (harmless surface scratches, but they're annoying)

Soapy water, pfft. That's about as pathetic as netflix telling you to use windex.

Step 1: Buy some cotton balls.

Step 2: Buy some isopropyl rubbing alcohol (91% if you can find it)

Step 3: Put cotton ball to the top of the isopropyl alcohol bottle. Pour into cotton ball.

Step 4: Clean the disc with the cotton ball. It will absorb into the scratches, removing as much dirt as possible.

If that doesn't work, then you are pretty much screwed. Unless you have a DVD burner and good ripper, you can back it up and error correction might fix it.

Don't they have a DVD Repair Kit... that removes scratches or something.
(i know you can't physically remove scratches but ease some minor damages though)

I saw it in the store the other day and i was wondering if that's any good or not.
