I was so let down by Flying Daggers. And that comes from someone who worships Hero :(

Ditto. What a disappointment. It was brightly colored and Zhang Ziyi's nice to look at, but that's all I can say for it.

House of Flying Daggers
That 70s Show S2
and maybe Primer

Only Eva Platinum 7, but I already got it yesterday, so I guess nothing this week :)

Maybe I'll buy Hellboy UMD at Target since it's only $12.99, not sure.

Is it just me.. or does that box cover have both nipple and moose knuckle?

It's the Dwarves. Check out their cover for "Blood, Guts and Pussy". :lol

God bless 'em.

So Houseof Flying Daggers was bad. I was gonna pick it up for PSP at Circuit City for 17.99.

I thought the 1st half of the movie was great, while the 2nd half completely destroyed what was shown in the 1st half. And when I say destroyed, I mean it made me forget how good it was before it went downhill.

Primer is definitely worth the purchase, for anybody that is sitting on the fence. Even if it doesn't become a huge favorite, you'll probably want to watch it at least 3 times:

First time -- Wait, what the fuck just happened?
Second time -- Okay, I kind of understand what happened but I have some questions.
Third time -- Alright, I get most of it but the ending is still strange.

Then maybe a 4th time with the Director's Commentary (I hope there is one...not sure).

The absolute highlight of the week:

B0007QJ23S.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I am so buying these. Santo Contra Hombres Infernales is admittedly terrible, but who cares! It's Santo versus mad scientists! Blue Demon versus Satanists! Fuck Primer, this is what movies are all about! The runner-up for pure cinematic glory is definately Hanzo the Razor:

B0007PAMKQ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

70s samurai exploitation flicks! How could you possibly go wrong? Meanwhile, this documentary about Abdullah Ibrahim (aka Dollar Brand) looks interesting:

B0007WQHJO.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I've been in the mood for this sort of release ever since The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou:

B0007GP70K.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I wouldn't actually buy Jacques Cousteau's documentaries, but they might make for a particularly laid-back rental. However, this is defiantely tempting:

B0007Y8ALK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Four flicks including the immortal Prince of Space. "How many times do I have to demonstrate to you... your guns are worthless against me!"

Finally, I'm pleased to see a couple of the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies out this week:

B0007IO74K.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
B0007IO74A.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

These are somewhat odd flicks, as they're new stories using the Arthur Conan Doyle characters with bits and pieces of the original stories thrown in. They ain't great (and Rathbone just can't live up to the greatness of Jeremy Brett's Holmes) but they ain't that bad either, and it's nice to see these releases have the original black and white versions in addition to the (inevitably) god-awful colorized releases. These won't be at the top of anyone's shopping list, but they're an interesting curiosity and are dirt cheap at ten bucks a pop.

Oh shit! More lucha flicks!

B0007QJ1XO.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
B0007QJ1X4.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

YES!

FnordChan of Krankor, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

p.s. I actually rather liked Primer quite a bit and recommend everyone at least give it a rental. Still, it's got nothin' on goofy Lucha Libre movies.

From an IMDB user comment on the first flick in the series:

"Great 70's samurai film. What separates it from other classics of the same era, like the Lone Wolf and Cub and Sleepy Eyes of Death series, is its decidedly tawdry sexual aspects- Hanzo's mammoth penis aka-"The Long Arm of the Law", and his 'interrogation' of female suspects. In essence it is one part samurai film, one part rouge cop/Dirty Harry flick, and one part soft core porno.

A bit slow in the action department, with a few brief sequences. The film mainly takes focus on Hanzo dealing with the ladies, as well as, the corrupt officials that try to undermine him. If you want action every five minutes, go elsewhere. If you want a super groovy soundtrack, look no further. Definitely hard to forget."

Best Buy is carrying this set? Assuming I don't already have the laserdisc (I picked up a bunch of AnimEigo's Samurai Cinema LDs dirt cheap a while back and haven't watched all of them yet) I'm totally buying this set. And Santo! And the Blue Demon! Hell yeah!

I caught Primer in the theater last year and was entertained, but I don't think I'd want to watch it again. I'll probably snag House of Flying Daggers used at Blockbuster in a couple of months.

Although, I did pick this up last Thursday:

Been a while since I got MST3K eps on DVD, do they still have the double sided DVD with the un-MST3K treatment on all the movies?

I got Kill Bill on umd,it has the special features "making of kill bill" and the bonus musical performances by "the 5,6,7,8's" They basically just cut the trailers off the umd.

Also its it widescreen with the black bars and looks and sounds f-ing great on the psp.
