(This is the low-budget British(?) version whose production was rushed to beat the release of Spielberg's movie, and it's apparently going straight to video. I'm really curious to see this, even though I suspect it's horrible.)

Anyone know anything about this British show? Worth a purchase?

B0007Y0982.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Television: Cracker (complete), King of Queens S4, Little House on the Prairie S8, Northern Exposure S3, two volumes of the Rambo animated series, Reno 911 S2, Saved By the Bell: The New Class S3, Tilt S1, and the final season of Walker, Texas Ranger.

EDIT: that's what I get for keeping two windows open at once. Mods, move this please.

I just saw a few episodes of The League of Gentlemen a couple weeks ago and thought it was very funny, and I'm not someone terribly accustomed to British television/humor. Amazon's got an informative piece on it here, but I don't know if I could outright recommend a blind $70 purchase. If you could sample it first, that'd be best.

the only real difference between the 30th anniversary (this one) and the 25th anniversary release (that you can get for $9.99 most places now) is the new one is on two discs and contains the WHOLE 2 hour making of documentary (which is upposed to be really good i hear) while the last release only had like a 50 minute cut of the doc. Also, they took out the trailers/commercials for some reason. I think i'll get the 30th Anniversary edition since i skipped on the last one, but it doesn't sound like its worth double dipping.

They'll probably release a 31st anniversary version next year on Blu-Ray. :lol And of course I'll probably buy it anyhow, being a total sucker for anything Jaws...

And Casino is a must-purchase, though I'll wait a few weeks on both DVD's (got cleaned out pretty good yesterday buying up Batman TPB's).

It's Kevin James day I guess. I'll be getting the King of Queens Season 4 and Hitch, then I have a 2nd row seat that night for Kevin james' stand-up.

Wow. Nothing released that I'd touch with someone else's ten-foot barge pole. Not often that that happens.

Not true. The new release features BOTH DD and DTS tracks, the original release was one or the other. It also has the original mono track for purists. It also includes a vintage interview with Spielberg from the set. Also, the two-hour documentary is worth twenty bucks all by itself. The only thing you're missing is the trailers and the retarded trivia game.

:lol i don't pay attention to the sound/audio stuff, so figures i would miss that. I've also heard the documentary is great, one of the main reasons im picking it up Tuesday. $14 at Circuit City btw for those interested.

Better than THAT.
Really nice release too. Director + Cast commentary for 1st episode + 2nd disc of extras including an interview with NASA scientists (have not watched yet) + gorgeous cover sleeve.

Is Planetes really good? I've never heard about it but I just read the reviews at Amazon and it sounds pretty interesting. The one main thing I'd like to know is whether the story is resolved in the 26 episodes or if it was canned and it's just left without the ending the creators would have wanted.

The story is resolved. If you're only into fantasy sci-fi, this show isn't for you as it is heavily grounded in reailty.

If you like manga, consider picking up Planetes in it's original form. It's even better.

No, actually it's the realistic aspect that so interests me. I tend to prefer my sci-fi to be more or less grounded in reality, as best you can with looking into the future.

Thanks, I think I might have to splurge on this tomorrow.

I might have to check out the manga as well.
