Philips DVP-642 i saw this in another thread but after looking on amazon there is quite a few negative responces to the player although alot of good too. I was just wondering if there are any other good dvix/dvd players. Thanks

Ok well i don't want to mod my xbox. I use my dvd player to play dvd's and game systems to play games. I have a three year old dvd player and am in need of an upgrade. So i was wondering if it was a good player.

hmm.. I use my game systems to play games, watch movies/anime/tv shows, listen to music, and play old games on emulators.

Nothing is going to play DIVX as well as a modded Xbox. Just suck it up and mod it. I have both the Philips 642 but it never gets used for DIVX. If you don't want to mod it, get a second Xbox and have that dedicated to media player. Accept no substitutes.

I actually got rid of all my DVD players and use a modded XBOX.

Marty,

Is there a standalone app (Other than XBMC) that plays DVDs in progressive? I have the OG Dongle Free one, but unless it's been updated, it doesn't do anything other than 480i.

The reason I ask is that the last few versions of XBMC use to freeze up or just not play several of my key (retail) DVDs.

I updated to the T3CH build (latest) last night and so far so good. But like everytime I update, some things get fixed, several things get broken.

Have you tried setting cache to 0 in settings? That's cured all the XBMC freezing/non-playing problems I've had. I might be totally off the mark, but maybe it's worth a try.

That being said, I think there'sThat being said, you might want to look at this:

First Version of Progressive Scan Patcher
>> The first version of Progressive Scan Patcher has been relaesed.

A PC hosted tool. It allows to patch xbe to make them ocmpatible with progressive scan displays (i.e. HDTV and true VGA converters). Tested on several XBox games, homebrew or MS (Dasboard and onlinedash). It allows progressive scan DVD playback if applied to DVD RegionX or MS Dashboard.

Hi All here is the first version of my patcher for game that do not support progressive scan mode. I tried it successfully on the Dashboard, The Thing and DVD RegionX. It's been reported to work on Hitman2 too You need a modded Xbox and the ability to make a backup of your game or running it from HD. Using te patcher on a file called Default.xbe will ouput a new file called Default.xbe.patched replace your game Default.xbe with that one (remove the ".patched" )and it should autodetect if progressive mode can be used. Enjoy. ProgressiveScan.

Thanks Ecro.

I used DVD region-X Patch btw.

I would also recommend a DVD player that will play DIVX over wifi or cat-5 LAN so you can use your file-servers....

All the more reason to just use a modded XBOX.

I just picked up an LG LDA-530 that I'm totally happy with. DivX Pro-Scan and a really nice start up option that skips everything and just starts the film. Got for $86CND. Only complaint is the tray is rather flimsy.

I have a Philips DVP642 and it will play just about anything. The only problem I've had with is when watching One Piece it cuts off a bit of the bottom and top of the screen so I have trouble reading the subtitles.

XBMC streams off SAMBA shares, so you can (i do) use NAS. No need for specific server software running on a PC.

I just think it's silly that you'd rather pay $$$ for a DVD player, when you can mod your Xbox for oh-so-much cheaper.

If you're worried about Xbox Live, there aren't really issues with it.
