Welcome back to E3! This is the 22nd edition of the expo.
This thread will, as always, provide an overview of the event and how to get the most out of it.

This year I believe what most people are anticipating is new hardware from Microsoft and Sony respectively. Upgraded consoles called Scorpio (Xbox) and Neo (PlayStation).
But even without new hardware there are many interesting games to look forward to:


  • Battlefield 1
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Dishonored 2
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Forza
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Pokémon Sun and Moon
  • The Legend of Zelda for Wii U
  • Mafia III
  • Persona 5
  • Titanfall 2
  • Watch Dogs 2...
The list goes on and those are already announced games. Games to be revealed ought to be quite a few.

E3 Special Notes and Policy Reminders

Post from last year, dates changed to reflect E3 2016.

1.) During E3 (Sunday, June 12th *through* Thursday, June 16th) all reaction threads will be locked. A reaction thread consists of such things as "Wow Sony just won E3!", "Zelda U has the best graphics ever!", "Is the Xbox One doomed now?", "Where is The Last Guardian?? Where's Santa Monica!?", "Are you buying a Wii U now?", "Does Microsoft have anything left? They announced so many games!", "Does Microsoft have the best Japanese support of any console?", or anything else that is just a thread about immediate reactions to events. If you feel you have somethings important to say on these matters, either ask in the main conference threads, or write-up a really good thread on it and post it on Friday, June 17th.

2.) If you post a news thread, make sure it contains actual details of the news at hand. If your thread is simply Title: "OMG KIRBY WII U ANNOUNCED!" Body: "ON THE STREAM!" your thread will be locked and we reserve the right to junior you, since this goes against normal thread policies anyway.

3.) Do not post new news from E3 in a pre-E3 thread. Either make a new thread, or pick an existing thread made during E3.

Policy Reminders:

1.) Do not complain about the purpose of a thread. This includes complaining about people judging gameplay in a gameplay video thread, judging graphics in a screenshot thread, or calling something too nitpicky or biased in a review/technical analysis/critique thread. Instead, if you disagree, either post the reason (in detail) that you disagree with the point being made ("I think the graphics look great, just look at the shadowing and texture detail!", "I don't notice frame hitching at 60 fps personally, so it doesn't bother me.", "In my experience with the game, I found the encounter design to be great actually, for example..."), or simply avoid the thread if you feel you are unable to.

2.) If you feel there's a problem with someone breaking the rules, simply PM a mod and do not engage. There are only ~20 mods and tens of thousands of posts a day, so we simply cannot be everywhere and see every infraction without your help.

No, the show is not open to the general public. It's intended only for professionals from the industry. This year however there is a public event called E3 Live: http://www.e3livela.com/

Do You Check Identification On-Site?

All E3 Attendees will be required to show a government issued photo ID (driver's license or passport) in order to pick up their badge holder on-site and gain access to the event.

When can I pick up my badge?

Attendees may pick up their badge and badge holders at any on-site Badge Pick-Up Counter located outside both the South and West Hall Lobbies. Badge Pick-Up Counters at the Los Angeles Convention Center will open on Sunday, June 12th at 1:00pm.

Where is the Media Center?

Members of the press and industry analysts can enjoy the complimentary Media Center in Petree Hall.

Does the Los Angeles Convention Center feature a parking lot?

The Los Angeles Convention Center has 5500 parking spaces with easy public access. The parking fee is $20/day. In addition to the LACC parking, there are multiple lots available nearby, including at L.A. Live adjacent to the LACC.

What dining options are available at the LACC?

Concessions schedule and availability are subject to each show. Taste of L.A. by Levy Restaurants is the exclusive in-house dining provider and operator of the onsite cafes listed below:

Galaxy Café
Tradewinds Café
Groundwork Coffee

Offsite dining options are available at neighboring LA Live. For additional options please visit Discover L.A.

Is outside food and beverage allowed?

The LACC does not permit outside outside food and beverage. Individual bottles of water are permitted though.

Will there be any shuttles from my hotel to the LACC?

A ticket to E3 Live I believe is needed to attend that event. An industry pass I don't believe gives you access, but you could of course check with support.

I can't believe how damn busy I've been leading up to this E3.
Like, crazy. I feel like I'm super disconnected, I've barely posted in a month hahaha.

So, I can't tell if I'm excited or exhausted!

yes I know stuff, no I'm not sharing. well maybe a little, it's a long weekend.
Either way, I've been skipping poker night, so they'll be some surprises for me too which is kind of cool for once :)

Once again Sony's conference is at the worst possible time for Europeans (2/3am).
Sony loves its largest Playstation market.

Great OP. Thanks. Shame Bethesda's is on at 2 in the morning for UK folks. I have Tuesday off thankfully so can catch up on Sony's press conference. Will there be a thread that has links to the full conferences after they go up for people to catch up without getting spoiled?

General interests for each conference:

EA: Mass Effect: Andromeda
Bethesda: The Evil Within 2
Microsoft: Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Scalebound
PC: Maybe Lawbreakers. I might play more on PC these days, but I can't really think of anything that would be exciting here.
Ubisoft: Watch Dogs 2, I guess. As long as they can make it interesting. The first reveal for the first Watch Dogs was fucking captivating.
Sony: The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, and any JRPG related stuff (Square Enix, Persona 5 appearance (?), Ni No Kuni II maybe)
Nintendo: Zelda...

It is time!
Though I'm going to be missing a good number of the conferences due to work unfortunately

Thank you for the time table, I'll check Beth tonight. Hopefully, we'll see some footage of Skyrim remastered !

Word of advice for the new folks at E3, don't eat in the concessions, it costs like crazy and it's not even good. Go outside, there's a California Pizza Kitchen just a block away ( I hope it's still there, I can't see why it's not, it was really popular). Bring ear plugs as well, it's like a casino in there, you'll be tired at the end of the day. Moreover, your legs will sore, expect this ;-)
