Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Via IGN:

Almost a year after announcing its return, the Entertainment Software Association announced today to its members that this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), has been canceled, IGN can confirm.

The event was supposed to be held from June 13th through June 16th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and would have been the first in-person E3 event since 2019.

Two sources have confirmed to IGN that the organization announced the cancellation via an email sent out to its members today. The email said that while E3 "remains a beloved event and brand" that the 2023 version "simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry."

The ESA concludes the email by reiterating its commitment to advocacy work.

E3's return for this year was announced last June alongside the confirmation that E3 2022 had been canceled. The news comes as multiple big names in the industry, from Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and more recently, Ubisoft announced that it would not be attending E3 in any capacity, with most opting to host its own digital showcases.

IGN has reached out to the ESA and ReedPOP for comment.

E3 pressers were fun, with funny meltdowns. Both good and bad.

There's no point in doing it if the bigger companies have their own things.

Sad stuff

Enjoy The Geoff's now, with infinite commercials and wet fart announcements.

And more cringe time than all E3's combined

I remember so many amazing E3 moments: Twilight Princess announcement, Wii announcement, Kinect, Metal Gear and FF on the Xbox, Sony's 2015 E3 (the GOAT) ...

Blade Runner Film GIF

Summer Game Fest and TGA doesnt even come an inch close to that

It was like christmas. I'll never understand those who were cheering for E3's death.

This wasn’t gonna be real e3 anyway. Its sad tbh. E3 used to be the shit.
Yeah, that's the kicker here. The old E3 is gone, long gone. What it is now, what it would've been, is far from the greatness we remember it being. A shame really, but this was inevitable, especially with everyone backing out.

It has been dead for a long time, if I'm being honest. All the game reveals happened 1 month prior via a tweet or investor calls. Or leaked.

But, even knowing it was time, doesn't really make hurt any less.

Now we are stuck with the Far west style event? where every gaming outlets announce events with the same schedule as the others, and it is difficult to follow?

I always loved coming home from work and watching the E3 content so it's sad to see it go away. The idea that it cost the companies too much money is a crock. These are multi million ,billion and trillion dollar companies and these events are basically tax write offs.

Hopefully all of their "directs" will be good

What really hurts E3 every year are the leaks. I miss the time when we didn't have aholes in the press paying people off for info or the secret leakers ruining surprises.

With dev times scaling line they are what are you anticipating really? Felt like for several years between 2015 to 2019 we saw the same games by and large in different stages. I haven't watched it regularly because of that and watched highlights of stuff I was interested in.

Farewell.

I guess the independent publisher streams is the way forward. Cheaper for publishers too. I would miss those crowd reactions though, but at least now we have live streams with reactions.

To see people so happy that its gone is so confusing to me. E3 was one of the rare moments throughout the year that gamers from around the world had a chance to get together to celebrate gaming like Comic Con, or the Porn convention. Like why are people so happy one of the biggest exclusive entertainment events that allow for cosplay, game demo, E3 girls, dev interviews, live game reveals and suprise trailers might be gone forever? Im convinced social media has created a hive mind of contarianism.

Ive never seen an industry that hates its audience quite like the gaming industry. I get that we can be cunts at times, but at least we are better than the furries who attend comicon and the people who get drunk at ball games and beat the crap out of each other in front of kids. Every industry has to deal with its morons.

I wouldve loved to attend these conferences. Especially now that im older and can afford to buy a ticket to LA, get a hotel and attend E3. I loved watching E3 2014 in a theater with other nerds and that show sucked.
