So, well, E3 is basically over. It totally is. I know, that shit sucked, right? Well! ITT we write our highlights, our lowlights, our oddities and those things that just annoyed us.
Highlight - The Zelda: Twilight Princess trailer. If there's one thing that delivered on all its promises without any catches, it would have to be this. We got to see just what kind of secrets they had up their sleeves for gameplay. We got to find out that the music would be fully orchestrated - and then we got to hear how fantastic the music was for ourselves with the trailer. It's good to be a Zelda fan, no doubt.
Honorable Mention - The Sony Press Conference. Regardless of how you felt about the various aspects of the presentation, few can deny that they know what E3 is about and they know how to play to the crowds. And they did that, with a mix of real-time and CG demos. It was the first "big" press conference, and it set the tone - the others simply could not match the destructive power of the bomb that Sony dropped during the show. It was the sound of a titan moving a mountain, and all stood up and listened. War has begun.
Lowlight - PSP E3 Lineup. If you had to say before the show that, for the most part, the system would be ignored by Sony and the big guns would be pulled out for DS instead of PSP, I'd probably be hesistant to believe that. But here it is. DS had a (overall) phenomenal showing, with games I really want - Mario and Luigi 2 DS, Mario Kart DS online, etc - and the PSP pulled out Lemmings and Monster Hunter. Which is fine, mind you, but it just didn't have any of the power that its rival did for sheer gaming greatness. A definite let down all around.
(Dis)Honorable Mention - Tina Woods playing Nintendogs at the Nintendo PC. Oh, we should have expected that Nintendogs would be at the PC in some major capacity. But that didn't change the fact that it was still one of the most embarrasing display of unabashed lameness possibly ever in any pre-E3 press conference. Nevermind the fact that it was topped off by Miyamoto's joking sexual advances on Miss Woods.
Oddities - Reggie Dance. The electroplankton new agey rave was capped off by what can only be described as an attempt to ride an invisible horse. But boy was it odd. I think my friend Omnicock seeing Coolio was also odd, but this was the cake taker.
Ugly - FrameCity Killers. I watched a video, and I viewed screencaps... and fuck, this game is ugly. I guess I would have to realize the "GTA scope" to appreciate its ugly, but I think next-gen can do much better for even an open-ended game experience like this is supposed to be. Ugly.
