You can talk to Dean (DrEvil) about the lack of a DVD. He alone handles them, so there's nothing i can really do for you. As for the tournament ( I wasn't even at E3 and I know this story way too well), here's what happened.
We had a SSBM tournament in 2003. It was just PGC and GCA though. We invited some other people, but nothing really specific. It was more or less just a way to get together before going to see Matrix Reloaded. Since it was so much fun, the following year, we decided to expand a bit and invite some specific people. The goal of the tournament was really just going to be to get everyone together, play some SSBM and see who gets their ass kicked.
Then, Dean got a little overzealous and made a post in the forums, inviting anyone that was going to be at E3 to join us. This created a problem at the show when way too many people showed up. We had no intention of getting a location, because the number of people showing up should've been able to fit into the hotel room (we fit 19 in there the year previous and in that year, we had 2 rooms). Anyway, there were clearly too many people, so I think our crew just made the best decision and called it off. It sucked, but it's not like there was an entrance fee, or any kind of prizes to be won.
In the end, people did get together and play, but it was more of just a ... well, people getting together and playing SSBM. It was E3 ... you play a lot of videogames. It's funny, because that's all the "tournament" ever was intended to be.
So yeah, some stupid shit that happened that I've always felt bad about. I'm a little surprised that people are still bitter about it, given that it really didn't matter all that much. It's understandable why people were pissed off at the time, but I fear that I'm going to be hearing about this every single damn time N-Sider is brought up and I like to think that we do good work at the site.
