I just thought I'd let you guys know that we're holding a raffle for our E3 trilogy set from the last three years;

http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=960

All information is there, and it's prety cheap, one dollar gets you loved long time.
It's a great little set, weighing in at four discs and a possible fifth, this year's coverage was of full press conferences and others, all the disc contents are listed at the link above.

Support N-Sider and enter to win.

Thanks.

I know, but I figured I'd try, heh. I know how crazy people get for E3 DVDs, and this one is a cheap alternative if someone wants to try their luck.

I've been waiting 4 years for you guys to ship me the e3 "Super VCD set" that I paid for in 2001. Could you tell whoever was in charge of that to ship something to me? I'd greatly appreciate it. I even have the Paypal record, e-mail confirming my purchase, and the 2-5 e-mails I SENT YOU GUYS over the years.

Thanks.

P.S. Were you also the guys who invited half the gaming world to a SSBM tournament at e3 last year, then cancelled it when we all met you at the conference center?

Eh. It was fairly odd, if I remember correctly. They invited half the known universe, even confirming the tournament over e-mail... then, when folks met 'em, it was revealed that they had never actually gotten a location for the tournament. In an effort to chase everyone off, they declared (on the spot) that the tournament was only going to be "for media" -- which was rather amusing, as 85% of the crowd was media. After that failed to chase us off, they told everyone it was cancelled... then held it anyway, or so I've been told.

I vaguely recall something about them inviting Dennis Dyack, the IGN editors, and Chris Kohler.

EDIT: My mistake -- it was the e3 2003 video these guys never sent, with the last promise being made in early 2004. More recent than I thought!

Yeah, we 'cancelled it', we invited a lot of people, and a lot of people still came. We cancelled it because there were some rather... shady and embarassing characters.

The DVD commentary actually explains, and pokes fun at those who we didn't want there. Maybe your name will come up.

As for your missing dvd set, I sent every single order out, and I do remember yours, I sent it twice; don't blame me for any problems USPS has.

You can talk to Dean (DrEvil) about the lack of a DVD. He alone handles them, so there's nothing i can really do for you. As for the tournament ( I wasn't even at E3 and I know this story way too well), here's what happened.

We had a SSBM tournament in 2003. It was just PGC and GCA though. We invited some other people, but nothing really specific. It was more or less just a way to get together before going to see Matrix Reloaded. Since it was so much fun, the following year, we decided to expand a bit and invite some specific people. The goal of the tournament was really just going to be to get everyone together, play some SSBM and see who gets their ass kicked.

Then, Dean got a little overzealous and made a post in the forums, inviting anyone that was going to be at E3 to join us. This created a problem at the show when way too many people showed up. We had no intention of getting a location, because the number of people showing up should've been able to fit into the hotel room (we fit 19 in there the year previous and in that year, we had 2 rooms). Anyway, there were clearly too many people, so I think our crew just made the best decision and called it off. It sucked, but it's not like there was an entrance fee, or any kind of prizes to be won.

In the end, people did get together and play, but it was more of just a ... well, people getting together and playing SSBM. It was E3 ... you play a lot of videogames. It's funny, because that's all the "tournament" ever was intended to be.

So yeah, some stupid shit that happened that I've always felt bad about. I'm a little surprised that people are still bitter about it, given that it really didn't matter all that much. It's understandable why people were pissed off at the time, but I fear that I'm going to be hearing about this every single damn time N-Sider is brought up and I like to think that we do good work at the site.

1) Now look... I may be quite embarrassing, but I'm not shady... or at least, that's what I like to tell myself. I'd love to see the DVD commentary and see whether or not I was poked fun at, but...

2) I never received these discs you say that you sent. Now, maybe there is a black-hole vortex inside my mailbox, but I've never had problems receiving anything else sent via USPS. If you say you mailed it twice, then obviously you must have mailed it twice, yet I still never received it... and I really have to blame someone about that. I'm not in the habit of paying for things and never receiving them, especially when I do so to help out a decent website.

3) Is that raffle legal in your state? I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but raffles = gambling, and are thus generally illegal in most states. Many states allow non-profit organizations to hold raffles as a fund-raising activity, but I don't think you necessarily qualify for that. I could be wrong, however.

Actually, N-Sider has often seemed like a nice site. I think I'm just grouchy because of the DVD/SVCD/etc. issue. The tournament was probably just one of those really lousy events that happens sometimes, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most folks have forgotten about it, and it's only a running joke with the rest of us. Besides, I have friends who are friends with N-Sider -- I can't afford to hold a grudge.

Well, I'm not in a state; and this is also why the raffle is being held as a donation, essentially, for donating one dollar to our site, you have the chance for us to decide if we send you a gift. Make sense?

As for the tournament, the forum post was mainly for our forum members, and it somehow got out into the 'open waters'. The reason we truthfully cancelled it was because there was one forum member who was actually stalking one of our female staffers, and we didnt want him there. Yet he kept persisting and we had no other choice.

There, I said it.

All in all, it's just another brick in the wall.

Well, that actually makes sense. It did leave a lot of other folks confused though, especially after being invited... heck, I was confirmed by both Jason and yourself, so I was a bit peeved. But you have to do what you have to do, I suppose.

Again, not to be annoying, but you guys might want to rethink the raffle thing in the future, just to be safe. I am somewhat sure that the way you guys are conducting it is illegal in most of the USA; odds are no one would notice, but if you had a single whiny guy who lost and complained to the right people, the fine might well outweigh the benefit received from the raffle.

(So am I to take it that I'm -not- mentioned on the DVD afterall?)

No, you're not.

I'm up in Canada, and I'm fairly sure the donation for gift thing is viable, but like you said, it's not a big enough deal, and it's not for expensive goods either.

Hmmmmm, I am torn between wanting to see this thread locked because it's obvious spam.....and wanting to see this disagreement over unshipped VideoCDs play itself out :lol

Eh ... I would have entirely forgotten about the DVD, but the post popped it all back into my memory. Now I really want to get my hands on the silly little thing I paid for.

Depends. In several provinces, you have to be classified as a charitable institution and need to apply for a license for the raffle. Now, it might just happen to be that wherever you are at doesn't have such requirements, but I honestly doubt it. Did someone get around to incorporating N-Sider for legal purposes? If so, you folks should really be careful.

It's not really spam, I mean how else do you spread the word - I've seen a fair share of threads in the past asking about e3 dvds, so I figured I'd let people know in a broader forum, if that makes sense.

Also, David, drop me an email and i'll send out another copy of it.

Let me know which year it was and such.

Are you really dying to see Luigi's Mansion that much? :lol

Why don't you just put the disc image(s) up on the webserver and have him download it? Seems like a decent compromise, and it sidesteps the unreliable postal service.

No, apparently I'm just some kind of idiot that thinks a semi-professional website might be able to host some files. If international shipping suits you better then so be it.

Wrong year. e3 2003... which just happened to be the first one I attended!

Experience e3 2003 through the eyes of talented young reporter David Dayton at TMK's e3 2003 Coverage -- or view the extended, typo-ridden version at Nintendorks.

Pro Tip: David Dayton's e3 2003 coverage was entirely composed on a Dreamcast, attached to a television in the Anaheim Quality Inn... just down the street from Disneyland.

Who has the best made E3 DVD for sale. Any suggestions?
Hmm. It's not too late for me to make one and sell it to you, is it?

Now where did I put that Miyamoto hand puppet...
