EA monopoly SPECULATION thread. (Post all your unfounded fears and rumors here)

Some might pull out of football games, but there will still be other football games available imo. Just not ones with the NFL label on it, or with real player names.

I'm boycotting EA as well*--if you don't buy sports games, it's pretty easy.

except for Timesplitters 3
I'm with you, and thank you for including that caveat.

Otherwise, FUCK YOU EA.

I just love people crying for a boycott but then adding 'Oh but I have to get this, this, this, etc.'

That doesn't make it a boycott. That's like a vegetarian making exceptions for A&W only cause the burgers are so good.

I'd like to apologize to all the EA haters out there that I might have defended the company against on a few occasions in the past. Sorry - I should have listened. Perhaps this will help build a bridge between us.

By my (admittedly sophistic) reasoning, Free Radical started development on that before it was bought by EA, so it gets grandfathered into my gaming collection. On its release date.

That's your choice, but you might want to avoid calling it a boycott.

Myself, I very much dislike EA's business tactics but I begrudingly admit they put out some games worth owning. The upcoming C&C Red Alert, for one.

i think someone should start a new thread simply as a call to arms to boycott EA. we can each sign up and give our reasons how EA has personally soiled the industry we love.

That is so gamefaqs.com.

This obviously really sucks for football gamers as regards choice, only thing I can think of off the top of the head of similar impact elsewhere might be the Stern/Sirius tie-up.

But at the same time, I sure as hell won't let this get in the way of purchasing good EA-published games such as the upcoming Oddworld or Burnout 3.

I'm sure the next madden will be an awesome game, there's no doubt it my mind. Probably will be the best of the series to come out. There will certainly be a price increase aswell, it doesnt take a genius to figure that out. I mean they have total control of the NFL license, they would be stupid not to increase the price point. Its the maddens comming out close to the end of the license agreement that I'm worried about. They will probably be total crap.

What's even worse is the fact that since no one else is able to or likely to work on anything in regards to player likenesses and such, they'll be far behind the curve when the contract is up in 5 years. So EA will probably have an easy time re-upping if they choose to.

I wanted to buy Tiger Woods DS, but now I feel bad even thinking about making that purchase. Can someone who's played it tell me that it sucks?

The very next Madden will probably be great in terms of more features, etc.... it's the ones after that within the span of this contract.

Will the price go up or down because of the cost of the deal and the monopoly on the league property?
Up of course, there's no reason to bring it down when you are the only game in town.
Will there be a consumer backlash, or will people buy anything with "NFL" on it, regardless of the backstory?
The lemmings will continue to buy, after all, it's got their team in it, the game must be good.
Will the game have technical improvements, or will EA have an excuse to "slack off?"
Hey, now there wont be 90 hour crunchtime weeks for the EA Staff!
What will the other football game developers do for next year?
Sega League Football! Featuring the Cleveland A52A2As, Pittsburgh Thieves and New York Tall Guys!
Does this deal set any kind of legal precedent, and what actions might the other interested parties take in a courtroom?
Nothing legal, as this is already commonplace... however, i'm certain this will start a trend, look for the NBA and MLB to go exclusive soon enough
What other online features will now be offered?
The new "Fuck You if You Don't Like It" mode, Where players are guarenteed the best online NFL experience out there!

I can hardly wait!!!!!

The NFL is not going to extend the exclusivity contract with EA if all its games are shitty.
As long as the money is rolling in, the NFL won't care if Madden 2006 is made out of sprites

I didn't see anyone post this yet, and this thread seemed to be the best place for it. PA chimed in:

I contacted EA hoping to ask them some questions regarding their recent NFL deal. I was however only able to ask one question.

Q. "How do you respond to rumors that your company is actually the fucking devil?"

A. "EA does not comment on rumors."

And we all have them. And we can all list the exceptions to the boycott that we plan to buy in 2005.

To the poster above who claims to have never bought an EA game, I don't believe it, not for a second. It's not possible. You simply don't understand how far reaching their ownership has been for so many years. I'm sure you've bought a bunch without even realizing it. They released 27 new million+ sellers last year. That's a platinum title every other week.
