Easiest shooters to 1cc

This sounds like a stupid question. Partially because it is.

I'm looking for the easiest possible shooter to clear with one credit. I've got this bizarre thing when it comes to score-based games; beat it first, then worry about score. And only beat them with one credit, of course.

Partially because of this, I can't get into many shooters that I'd like to. Really, I'm just immediately turned off by either not seeing myself beating one in the next year or not seeing myself pulling a decent increase in score in the slightest.

So, for some stupid sense of accomplishment in an attempt to actually dig into one of these games for once, I'd like an easy-to-clear shooter. Older console, MAME, whatever.

Can't play that game without thinking of chains, heh.

I actually have a huge backlog of shooters I'd like to get into. DoDonPachi, Gradius V, Ikaruga (less so), Mars Matrix, the rest of Cave's games... It's just almost too daunting.

Blazing Lazers, Gradius III, DoDonPachi isn't bad compared to most other Cave games... I've given up trying to 1cc ESPGaluda :P

Thunder Force 3 on Genesis.

Just what I was going to say. Though, only on Normal. Try it on the hardest setting for a challenge. (15 minutes of fame: I beat it on the hardest setting without dying and got into the highscore board of EGM, back when they published high score lists. Got an EGM t-shirt out of it.)

just about anything on old consoles that isn't called "r-type." thunderforce 3 is good, as is anything by compile. just find something you like.

im right on the same page as Tain right now.

ive been putting in good hours of play time and sampling of a ton of shmups lately, and having a damn good time.

ive enjoyed shmups since the dawn of time, but ive never put in the effort needed to 1cc one of them.

i aslo cannot play Ikaruga without chaining. its just too damn addictive. that also kills it for me.

i finally got a chance to try Donpachi and Dodonpachi. both are fantastic and super fun games. i like them a lot. the first 2 levels on both games seem easy, but i havent gotten much farther then that on 1C.

im having fun sampling them all, and putting actuall effort into a few of them (Gradius V for example), but id like to get a bit more serious and actually lean how to play well.

im thinking Donpachi may be the way to go. not sure yet though, i might change my mind a few more levels in. :p

i found a very similar topic on the shmups forum: http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4182

(hopefully its ok to link to that site. ill edit it if there is a problem.)

interestingly ESPGaluda is mentioned in that thread as being one of the easiest (of Cave games anyways). i also read a bunch of posts saying how much of a bitch Gradius 3 is after a certain point.

Shienryu Explosion from The Double Shienryu on PS2 is very easy. It's also available in Europe under the name Steel Dragon EX where the difficulty apparently have been lowered even more.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

Well, it all depends. Gradius 3 arcade vs. Gradius 3 SNES. SNES isn't bad, but arcade is stab-your-nuts-with-a-screwdriver. Or something like that.

Does Choplifter count as a shmup, or does the part of the game where you have to pick up the prisoners ruin its purity? In the arcade version of that I'd usually go for two or three loops before I got bored and let someone else play.

Fire Shark is definitely a contender for an easy shmup to 1cc. I can't think of an easier one.

Edit: You might want to try Soukyugurentai too.

IIRC (it was almost 19 years ago, after all), C64 rev (IMAGINE/KONAMI) does it for you automatically.

Arcade rev is so bloody hard I can't really answer your question. <<< perhaps the toughest shooter in existence.
