DreamWorks and Imagine have set Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to write Johnny Blaze, an action comedy that will be developed as a star vehicle for Eddie Murphy. Variety says Imagine's Brian Grazer will produce.

Murphy would play the title character, an old-school rapper who retires and becomes a private eye who solves crimes within the hip-hop world.

I see Eddie Murphy is competing with Halle Berry to see who can flush their career down the shitter the fastest.

Sounds like a great move to me. Eddie's career was going down the shitter before Pluto Nash. This movie will likely build on his current momentum and will truly establish him as one of Hollywood's elite.

Y'know it actually sounds a bit like Beverly Hills Cop except set in the music industry.

I don't think this will be that bad. Eddie just needs to do fewer friggin' family movies.

I actually sorta liked The Haunted Mansion, just cause I'm a sucker for the whole haunted house idea and like the Disneyland attraction.

Here's how we'll know if it's a good movie: If it's Rated R.

I refuse to see a movie that Eddie Murphy doesn't say fuck, shit, and damn a whole lot.

Dear Eddie Murphy,

Please choose a role without talking animals, crappy potions that alter one's weight, or haunted houses. In short, make Beverly Hills 4. No one wants to see an Eddie Murphy who isn't killing someone or making a wisecrack.

...I see a trend here...Murphy's clearly readying the American public for his bid for power as a State governor. :lol

-Optimistically pessimistic about your future role/political career

Pluto Nash had it's moments.. but it wasn't good... ditto for Haunted Mansion... how in the hell did they think they could pitch Haunted Mansion as a family movie? Waaaaay too many zombies in it for that.

Difference here is that Murphy's looking to become the most prominent actor to flush his career down the toilet TWICE.

:lol So true.

And hell, who knows...if there's a lot of shit talking in the movie, that'd be enough for me.

I might take some flack for this comment but there really aren't very many solid roles for black actors. What do exist are all monopolized by Denzel Washington. If you don't wanna play a barber, a rapper, or someone who likes to throw house parties, your choices are really quite limited. It's sad.

Very true. If this is rated "R" , it'll probably be funny as hell.

Yes, and? Is this a defense of Eddie Murphy's choice of consistently horrible movies? It's not like Murphy's a man in need of money to survive. He's not some unknown actor who has to take whatever he can get, even if it's a weak stereotypical role or something.

Well, I was just saying. Sure, he doesn't HAVE to take these roles but I was just noting how his choices are fairly limited. I guess he could just not act or develop his own projects but that might not be feasible.

Really, I was referring more to a larger problem than what piece-of-shit Eddie Murphy is starring in this week.
