My mum's workplace has just sent out an email to all their employees which says among other things that if they store data on USB flash drives they should "put a password on it". Unfortunately for some reason they have failed to recommend any software that should be used to accomplish this, so can anyone suggest some suitable software that runs on Windows, can run from a USB drive without installation, and does not require Administrator priviliges in order to function?

TrueCrypt was my first thought but according to this page Traveller Mode requires admin privileges.

"IronKey only ships within the USA" - no good as I'm in the UK.

Also, that $79 price tag for a 1Gb drive is total fail. And on top of that it seems there's some sort of subscription charge for the security software?! No thanks.

$79 is a lot but it self destructs if someone fails to login properly. That is awesome.

Some drives will come with free encryption programs allready on them, you just need to install it into Windows and set a password and size for the private partition.

Well the issue there is that she'll be using this on her work computer, where applications can't be installed since she won't have administrator rights. So it needs to be something that can run directly from the USB stick itself.

I think that this flash drives could work. They have worked great for me!

U3 may not work in this situation. My last drive with U3 tech required an install and wouldn't work where I couldn't instlall programs. For instance, school computers. That was last year though so maybe they fixed the U3 stuff.
