So has a good reason been given why I should buy this instead of or AND GT?

Why is Konami even bothering with this game? No one in their right mind would pick this over GT4.
Agreed. KCES should just port it to GC/Xbox, where it has little to no competition. It's using Renderware after all, shouldn't be tough.

Does it have online?? Japanese companies have really missed the boat on online play (look at Konami's poor online implementation on PES4).

They really shouldn't do high resolution renders when the textures are so low resolution. Makes the whole thing look ugly :/

Konami worker: "Hey, I've got a great idea; let's make a racing game to compete with a huge juggernaut like GT, and only release it on their own turf to boot!"
Konami Boss: "Why, that sounds virtually risk-free with a high chance of success!"

:huge fucking rolleyes:

It looks nice, but as outlined above, saying this thing faces an uphill battle to compete against GT is an understatement. The hill is vertical.

The comparison video that shows off Enthusia's physics vs Reality has me REALLY excited. I dont see GT4 or Forza having the balls to do that. The desert rally looks like it could be alot of fun and the game utilizes a clutch. I am more excited for Enthusia at this point than GT4 purely based on the physics. The mountain track screams Initial D. I love the lighting!

Not over GT4, in addition to!

That's exactly it. I don't see this game replacing GT4, but racing fans who like that type of game would probably want to get Enthusia as well.

I played this at TGS a dozen time and preferred it way more than the GT series, all due to the physics. It's far more sim like than GT4 and demands respect with all the inputs, (although it's not up to the delicacy of Grand Prix Legends).

However, as much as I enjoyed it, it does have a problem and that's the tracks. There are a bunch of real life circuits that are just fine, but there's also a number of fictitious locations that the team have built. They're just not up to scratch, feeling very generic and are over shadowed by the real life circuits.

That aside, there is another problem, the PS2 pad. Most of the games I played at TGS were on a wheel/pedal setup and the experience was great with perfect control (as expected). This control balance has translated poorly onto the pad and I found the car very difficult to control. I guess there may have been an option to adjust the sensitivity and deadzone, but I didn't have time to look as I went straight back to the main machine ;)

In conclusion, I WILL be buying this game to play alongside GT4 and in the long run I will probably get more miles out of Enthusia due to the sim aspect and the fact that I've a wheel/pedal setup at home to get the most out of it.

This is meant to be an "easy to pick up and play" alternative to racing sims, or so the latest briefing I went to would lead me to believe. The draw card is meant to be a physics engine that's personified by a ball at the bottom of the screen which lets players gauge the size and direction of momentum and different forces acting on them. We'll apparently be able to flip the cars over as a result. Didn't get to play it... sounds terribly gimmicky...

Oh please please dont tell me they are going to go back and dumb down the physics. The g-force guages in R. Revolution and GT4 are not that useful imo, I doubt Enthusia's will be any better.

Polyphony was *the* first developer to do that with GT2 and the debut of Laguna Seca. Anyways, these screens look stupendously hot! I want to make love to my monitor. The car detail and the lighting = GODLY! I'm not sure what looks better; this or GT4. :(

I wish MS would recruit some these guys to do the lighting for Forza.

The lighting process is pretty much the same, at least on the cars, between both games. Irradiance lighting generated by a cube map.

The environments both look very similar as well as they are baked with CPV from a global illumination source.

Almost all modern games use the same technique including PGR2, and Rallisport2. New and cooler stuff is said to be coming down the pipe though.

I actually prefer Forza's lighting to Enthusias.

Mabye I'm responding to the coloring or something. In these pics the lighting on the cars seems to match better with the lighting in the environment and ends up making more visual sense to me. The cars feel more like a part of the environment, in other words.

That's definetly the most impressive part of Enthusia so far. For those that haven't seen it, here's the real car vs. Enthusia car demonstration video:

They also show a wheel, I wonder if that's the FF wheel Konami is doing for the game?

I understand what you mean. I think Enthusia has a harder level of contrast between light and dark. Lots of very deep blacks in the shadow areas. Looks good for certain.

If i only had money to buy one game between this and GT4, i'd get this. This game will be for racing purists mostly. It's got the Nurbugring track and that's the only track you need..that and Tsukuba to re-create Best Motoring shows.

It's got more realistic physics than GT4, by looking at videos of both. It's got point-to-point, Initial D style races + real physics. Best RIMS ever by looking at those pics. McLaren SLR. Rain effects that no GT game has ever seen. Proper working headlights.

I love the GT series but i'm ready for a real console SIM.
