Epic Games Store 2024 Year in Review
2.14.2025By Epic Games
Welcome to this year's edition of the Epic Games Store Year In Review! As with previous years, we've spent time reflecting on the year we've had in 2024 while taking a look ahead at some of the most anticipated store features and releases coming in 2025.
We're excited to announce that we achieved a new milestone of 295M Epic Games Store PC users in 2024, representing an increase of 25M users year over year. The Epic ecosystem expanded significantly as well, with 898M total Epic cross-platform accounts, growing 94M in 2024. This includes accounts created through partner platforms and the Epic Games Store on mobile, which we launched last year on Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union . Daily Active Users (DAU) peaked at 37.2M, and our peak Monthly Active Users (MAU) reached 74M – slightly down from last year’s 75M. Our average Daily Active User count was 31.5m, up 6% with average Monthly Active Users at 67.2m, also up 6%.
We continue to see strong momentum in catalog growth thanks to continued adoption of, and improvements to, our Self-Publishing Tools. In 2024, 1,100 games released on the Epic Games Store, taking our total catalog size to over 4000 products. Player spending on third-party applications using Epic Payments reached $255 million, down 18% year over year. This number does not include publishers generating revenue via their own payment solutions. Total spending, including Epic’s games, achieved $1.09B in 2024, up 15% from 2023.
We’ve stated that when you succeed we succeed, and the ways developers are succeeding on the Store continues to evolve beyond our traditional measure of third-party revenue we see from our native payment solution. It's not only growth in DAU and MAU that highlight how big the market opportunity is on the Epic Game Store, but third-party gametime as well, which grew from 2.41 Billion hours in 2023, to 2.68 Billion in 2024; a 11% increase year over year. We’re also seeing more developers than ever leverage the paths we provide to keep 100% of their net revenue throughout a game’s lifecycle. This includes Epic First Run, our opt-in exclusivity program which includes over 150 games scheduled for upcoming release, and Now on Epic, our limited time incentive program for back catalog titles. We are happy to share that the Now on Epic program has been extended to January 31, 2026 and now includes mobile titles. These two programs allow developers to keep 100% of Net Revenue for the first 6 months after a game releases on the Epic Games Store.
The Epic Games Store also provides developers with the freedom to utilize their own third party payment solutions for their In App Purchases (IAP), and a growing list of developers are finding both success and revenue bringing alternative payment solutions for IAP alongside their games. This benefits developers greatly as they keep 100% of the net revenue on their IAP sales and have more direct relationships with their players. Games that embrace this opportunity typically have large daily player counts here on the Epic Games Store, including hit live service titles like Marvel Rivals, Valorant, and Naraka: Bladepoint, along with hit premium titles like EA SPORTS FC™ 25 and others.
Unreal Engine developers currently pay 0% engine royalties on all Epic Games Store sales, and this Fall we introduced Launch Everywhere with Epic. This new program for Unreal Engine developers offers a royalty rate reduction from 5% to 3.5% on all platforms and stores for eligible Unreal Engine games published on the Epic Games Store from 2025 onwards. To be eligible, games must ship on the Epic Games Store before or at the same time they’re released on other supported stores on platforms like PC, Mac, Android, and in the future, iOS.
These options give developers an opt-in tool kit to further maximize their success and margin in a large-scale store environment that goes beyond our standard 88/12 revenue share.
Lastly, our Free Games Program has continued to deliver PC favorites to new audiences for the 5th year running. Epic players stocked their libraries with over $2,000 USD worth of great PC titles across 89 giveaways. The program is not slowing down and will continue in 2025, on both PC and mobile.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the developers, publishers, players, and creators who continue to work with us to make this all possible.
