About Epic Games

So basically every PS3 developer will get middleware and UE3.0? That's crazy.

Also there was a rumor that DMA will be using UE3.0 for the next GTA. That would be awesome.

Renderware was looking nice on PS3 as well, though.

Epic must be rolling in the dough right about now. They probably have like 3 or 4 dump trucks outside waiting to dump money in front of their offices. :lol

GTA 4 on UNREAL® ENGINE 3? :D

Can the engine handle huge, living streaming environments? And yeah I agree on the EA tears, looks like it will be EA exclusive now that Renderware middleware. :lol

I've always preferred id engines over their Epic counterparts but UE3 sounds like a monster. Congrats!

sorry dude id engines are only good for rendering corridors. Unreal 3.0 all the fucking way.

Take 2 using the most popular game to publicize an alternative to EA's renderware... sounds likely when you think of it.

id and Valve must be crying themselves to sleep. They were there with hot shit just before all the next-gen hoopla kicked off, and now Epic has swooped in.

There was the GoW tech demo a GDC that had a HUGE (SUPAH HUGE) city rendered beautifully in real-time. It was a sight to behold.

na that was alright, you should check out the Namco's Frame City. It looks incredible but has some animation problems. Truly some incredible graphix.

A Take 2/Epic teamup would make perfect sense. Epic is just foraying into the console middleware battlegrounds, and GTA was a big part of putting Renderware on the map, so they're the ideal partner to launch UE3 off of. For Take 2 they get to avoid further business with EA and would likely get phenominal support from Epic since Epic would want the game to look like a real flagship title.

I'm praying for it, because GTA of all franchises could most use a big graphics leap.

Its shown some impressive capabilities already, plus on the PS3 you have a system designed for fast data streaming, thanks to the Blu-Ray 6x drive. Epic sounds like they plan on really tricking the engine out for the PS3 as well.

Engines is how iD got all it's money, time for Epic to do it.

They've been doing for a while now with PC games, even some console stuff like UbiSoft's games. But they're really gonna clean up now.

I'm just glad that what is going to become something that gets used a lot is actually quite impressive. The number of renderware games this gen was overkill, and not many of them looked so hot.

Congrats to Sweeney and the whole team. Everything I've heard about them is for the positive. Great team, really friendly and helpful, fantastic tools and support, etc.

During the UE3/Gears of War demo during GDC 2005, the guy doing the demo (Marc Rein? Tim Sweeny?) showed a level with an armored car driving through the game world and were talking about how the engine would start to stream in level data when it "sensed" the player was getting close to the next level.....

They specifically mentioned UE3 could be used in a GTA-type game....

Perhaps UE3 will be used in the Next-gen GTA itself....
