Lisa Leslie dunks in All-Star game...

....seriously WTF? Is it that slow of a sports day?

That's the "breaking news" on the bottom right corner "Breaking News" box.

-_-

Here I thought this thread would be about Adam Dunn or Mogan Ensberg killing Tony Larussa.

Having played with one and coming away uninpressed, I maintain that I could beat any wnba player 1 on 1. That dunk being such a big deal in womans basketball just makes me more confident.

You played with a WNBA players?!?!? OMG!!! Do tell!!!!

DCX

She wasnt a WNBA player at the time, it was back in like 97. We ended up playing in a pickup game and I later found out she made the phoenix wnba team. Ignoring gender, she was average at best. Half the dudes on the court were better than her and they arent considered professional atheletes.

If you guys wanna see good womens basketball, watch the old ABL stuff (and by 'old' i mean like 1999). That leagues women were the best technically sound basketball players I've ever seen, male or female. The WNBA is a joke compared to that league (The ABL had about as much NBA support as the USBL does) so it's really a case of style over substance. I'd actually go so far as to say that half or more of the women in the WNBA couldn't hack it in the ABL.

It sucks, too, cuz if the WNBA fails it could make womens basketball look bad, which is unfortunate cuz there's a lot of REALLY talented women out there who get lumped in with people like your average WNBA player.

Which is why the NHL/NHLPA has to announce that they've come to an agreement before MLB's All-Star break is over (preferably the day after the game).

Women and good basketball don't go together. It is like men and gymnastics or figure skating, I would rather watch the sex that can actually play the game.

I remember hearing similar nonsense when I was in college about the "amazing" fundamentals of basketball. And Duce22 is totally right (though I always assumed that WNBA players would have to be good, guess I was wrong). I heard similar nonsense from my college's women's basketball team. Granted it is a division 3 school, but they kept telling me how a women team would beat a men's team because they were more technically sound. Total bullshit. Me and a bunch of guys I never played with beat them easily.

You can fucking throw as many bounce passes, put in as many layups, and run as many pick and rolls as you want, but that won't make you into a good basketball player or make it fun to watch.

I'm with Bill Simmons: the WNBA needs to die.

his WNBA test is the best thing ever. would you rather...

A) have your city's WNBA team win the championship

or

B) find $5 lying on the street.

I hate the WNBA so much. It is without question the most offensive thing I've seen on television in my lifetime. If you took the best 7th grade boys basketball players in the country they would destroy either WNBA All Star team. I'd rather watch QVC than the WNBA.

To continue with previous posts... I don't watch the WNBA, and the fact someone doing A dunk is such big news tells me I'm right in that decision.

Seriously, does the WNBA think it's a good idea to promote the fact that dunking in their sport is an ultra-rare phenomenon?

I caught the final moments when the dunk occured.. and it was pretty sad. The entire court, players from both sides cleared the lanes just so she could dunk it. Here's the kicker though, another player attempted to dunk (again, uncontested) and failed to do so TWICE. They gave her the ball for a third attempt but opted instead to hold on to the ball for the final seconds, ending the game with a shot from outside the 3... that didnt go in.

I would enjoy womens basketball more if they actually "looked" like athletes. Almost every post player in college or the WNBA is just some big fat chick. Put a bunch of Marion Jones looking girls out there and have them run the whole game, now that might be exciting.
Heck I married the caption of our colleges womens basketball team, and even she hates watching womens basketball.

I'd trade in the Comets 4 championships for 20 bucks.

:lol :lol :lol

I'm reminded of the chick that won the McDonald's high school dunk off a few years ago, which (after seeing the footage) was one of the most most shameless pro-feminist moments I've ever seen.

Haha, well, Brandi Chastain was the worst ever. You cannot say that was a spur of the moment thing at all.

Not really. All her male competitiors missed their dunks. That's why she won (but of course no one ever mentions it).

The real question is.. do you take her to school on the court?

Just give them more time for their training methods to advance. They haven't been doing it as long as guys have, their kids will probably rule.
