What an amazing movie... wow. What did everyone here think about it? I really believe this should get best picture, but it probably wont even be nominated.

PS. Does anyone here know of a good wallpaper for the movie?

I thought the ending was unnessecary.

It would have a much sweeter movie if they had just met each other again and fallen in love without knowing about the memory erasing.

Also Carrey's character wasn't that likeable - but that's a fault of all of Kaufman's scripts.

Besides that - one of the most original and enjoyable movies I've seen in a long time.

I disagree with both Floater's points.

This movie is fucking awesome...one of the best ever frankly. Unless you're shit at following non-linear plots, in which case it must seem like random crap.

I thought Carrey's character was likable, maybe do to being a huge Carrey fan and always liking him, i dunno, but I liked him a lot. About the ending, yeah, it wasn't handled that well. There could have been a lot better points to end it. Not sure where exactly but somewhere better. Still, minor gripe in a picture I also believe deserves a nomination for best picture. The visual effects were brilliant also. They were so creatively done and fit the movie so perfect.

Question:
Why did that log move when they were in the forest?
It appeared to have some sort of significance, but I don't know what it meant.

Fair enough, but I just thought Carrey's character did nothing to deserve Winslet's character. She sort of latched on to him, without him doing anything worthy.

I disagree.
I don't know if the ending was "necessary" as it was, but I'm happy that they went with the one that they did. The fact that they knew about the memory erasing and everything, but nonetheless decided to give it a try, was pretty significant.

Also Carrey's character wasn't that likeable - but that's a fault of all of Kaufman's scripts.
Probably because the character's flaws were supposed to be pretty explicit. And still likeable, I thought.

I see what you're saying now. It seemed to me like she was just intrigued by him initially and they came to be really comfortable around each other.

One thing I really hated:
Why did Joel just continue to let Clementine listen to his "memory tape?" I don't care if Clementine "thought it was fair." It just makes things worse (but things obviously got better, though...through the wondrous world of romanticism. :))

yeah, that's kinda true but Joel was nice if nothing else, and Clementine seemed to need that in her life. And the night on the ice with him pointing out constallations and stuff. They just became comfortable because her openess and came to have fun together and make memories.

but i liked kaufman's other movies more; adaptation is one of my favorite movies ever

I agree completely.

Adaptation is sitting in my top 5 movies of all time. Of course, the much hated on Vanilla Sky is in that same list, so I guess my opinion doesn't count. :(

I love the movie. It's worth at least 3 or 4 viewings to get everything out of it.

The only thing that still doesn't make sense is
When Clementine is walking away from Joel down the street and he goes after her in his beat up car. A car just randomly crashes down from the sky in the background. What for?

Don't listen to the hataz, FA. Vanilla Sky is awesome. And so is Adap-fucking-tation.

I wouldn't read THAT much into the car. His mind is getting deleted, and also getting compressed so that it can be deleted easier. So all of his memories featuring Clem are smashing together. It's the same thing with the books slowly becoming white.

Definitely a great movie, I think it also hits home a way lot more if you have a bitter and upsetting break-up. The usual "I don't want to see you anymore" statements and the like, but deep down inside there is something that just doesn't want the memories to go, even though the relationship went sour.

I know if I was in those shoes regarding the memory wipe, I probably would've done the same thing as Carrey and felt those same feelings towards the end. It was a great movie, was funny at times, a little freaky due to people being wiped off and quite emotional. Ending was definitely tops.

I haven't been keeping up much with the upcoming movie releases, but this along with "The Incredibles" has my vote for movie of the year thus far. It really breaks my heart that I can't look forward to a Lord of the Rings this December. It was the only thing that kept me going during the past few winters.

damn this was one fine movie. I finally had a chance to rent it and it just blew me away. Hell, even my wife liked it and she's quite fickle.

I am so going to buy it when the stores open tomorrow.

I went to see it at the theaters but I didn't pay much attention to it (was with a girl) but I wouldn't say it looked that interesting, I guess I gotta rent it or something.

For non-The Village movies this year,

1) The Incredibles
2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3) Garden State

*I just saw Eternal Sunshine again tonight with some friends that hadn't yet seen it. AWESOME. "I'm making a birdhouse!"

A nice flim. Actually I had no idea about this film when it was about to be released. It was the music on the trailer that impressed me. After reading some review, I went to watch it.

I wasn't dissapointed.

It was nice, really great imagery and everything, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again. I don't know why.
