For whatever reason I could not find an official announcement from SCS, but both Euro Truck Sim 2 and American Truck Sim are listed on the Xbox and PS stores. They seems to be next-gen only. No specific date yet.

Consoles are filled with crappy clones, but this is finally the real deal. I've been playing these games for hundred for hours on PC and can recommened them to anyone that likes driving (not just truck enthusiasts) as there's lots of exploration and a building your company from nothing to an empire. It has been my go-to method of relaxing for years. They also work surprisingly well with a controller so no wheel required. The only issues on PC have been performance which has been slowly degrading over the years and there's a bit too much DLC available for each game. If they can make an optimised console version and sell a complete edition with most DLC included, this is a must-buy for me.
archaic visuals.
Banger games, both of them.
Perfect vibes, even with the archaic visuals.
The cost would be quite significant to upgrade the engine and the huge amount of textures for all the locations. This is the problem I have with these games. I like them and I have dozens of hours with both of them but the visuals are rough. Thankfully they added TAA a couple of years ago but their engine is just too old at this point. I would love to have these simulators with more realistic graphics
For reference, Euro Truck Simulator 2 sold 13 million + 80 million DLC.Result would be amazing but this is a fairly small company and the genre is pretty niche.
I think it's also the case of not trying to mess with something that works and that already has a ton of content. Saber is doing a similar thing with Snowrunner. They're not making a sequel, but just keep delivering more (paid) content and also keep preparing different smaller games like Expeditions or Roadcraft. The cost would be quite significant to upgrade the engine and the huge amount of textures for all the locations.

Personally I would buy Euro Truck Sim 3 with that stuff (RTX and good rain / snow would be amazing), but how many people would plunk down a lot of $ for that?
That's over how many years though? And the game and a lot of DLC goes for very cheap prices quite often during sales. For reference, Euro Truck Simulator 2 sold 13 million units, and 80 million DLC.
I'm not 100% disagreeing with you; I'm just pointing out that they more than likely have some resources to update the engine's technical capabilities to make it more contemporary. They just don't feel like they have to.That's over how many years though? And the game and a lot of DLC goes for very cheap prices quite often during sales.
They certainly have made some substantial upgrades over the years, but unfortunately the engine was never built for them so they came at a heavy cost with the whole thing creaking very badly right now. Performance can be terrible on the new maps and your hardware makes little difference as the game is hopelessly CPU bound and single threaded. I can only hope that a new port might be a good chance to revisit some of that ancient code and maybe with the platform in-built tools they can utilise the console CPUs a little better. We'll see I suppose.I'm not 100% disagreeing with you; I'm just pointing out that they more than likely have some resources to update the engine's technical capabilities to make it more contemporary. You need to get him on Farmer Sim!My dad loves this game on PC. In fact, he only plays 3 games: Truck Sim, Flight Sim and Elite.
I'll give this one a shot.
