"At least some of the work, ideas, and inspiration that went into the now-cancelled PS5 game from shuttered PlayStation developer London Studio have found their way into Cast Outs, a newly announced game from a team containing eight former London Studio developers.

Cast Outs is an online co-op game set in an urban fantasy-inspired London that's "intertwined with fantastical wonder, delivering a sense of newness and nostalgia, discovery and familiar favourites. It's fantasy in a modern jacket." You use magic and spells to get around and defeat enemies, which is a similar concept to what London Studio was working on before it was closed down."

If this is what Sony Londons GAAS title was, Sony looks wise to have cancelled it imo.

Eh, looks like family fun to me in its early state. I like the different magic powers (and hopefully there's some combo effects to make use of to mix multi-character techniques,) and the visual stye isn't very grabby but it's soft and rounded without being childish. Needs work, but it's intriguing that we're seeing some form of of SIE London's last effort resurrected, and hopefully they have the ideas worked out from the big office for how this game concept should work now that they're indie.

...That said, I don't see myself playing this game.

Imagine shutting this studio down but throwing hundreds of millions at Haven and Fairgame$....

For the record, this doesn't look amazing... but Concord and Fairgame$.... come on...

Definitely looks like they recycled a lot of ideas from that cancelled game:

I like some of the physics in the video. But it looks pretty jank, and the overall vibe of the trailer is weird. Feels more like random clips of b-roll than a proper trailer.

Agreed. It is only a team of 8 people making this so I'm sure lots was cut from the cancelled game. Still not seeing anything compelling at this point.

Looks fun as hell honestly. One of the first games I wish was hitting Xbox.

Looks like a coop beat em up with objectives. Graphics and destruction look great.

This would probably do very well on Gamepass with the coop focus. Oh well. Another new IP bombing on PS5.

It is a year and change away (at least...), so yeah, some clearly visible problems and deficiencies are here, but there's a good amount of time setbl ahead to work through.

(This actually looks like an investor's reel which got released to the public, something that was built out of what's on-hand and is meant to get funds going but clearly is stuck together with duct tape and bubblegum of first-draft parts.)

Sony London was only fully closed in May 2024 so there's only 18 months or so of work into this. It's still incubating, this is just a quick glimpse of very much a WIP project. Having the previous work (even considering they had to rebuild it from scratch) helped them get to this point, but it still needs time, which they have scheduled.

However, for me, the fact that they're showing it this early, and announcing an Early Access so far away, has me wondering if they're fishing for support to see if they'll even make it through to that e.a. release or need to retool it completely.
