Ellipticals provides all of the calorie burning as proper running without the impact to ones knees and back. If I had more room for workout equipment I'd definitely have one rather than my fold up exercise bike.

The gym / fitness center in my workplace with numerous ellipticals is still closed due to COVID :messenger_crying:

Why not both?

I got both and prefer elliptical, makes my ass better looking. I would prefer a treadmill but they're all paywalled through apps which I refuse to use.

I'd go with elliptical over bike, not a big fan of exercise bikes. I was thinking about getting my wife the Proform HIIT, it's kind of a combination stair climber and elliptical.

I use a treadmill, but wish I'd gotten an elliptical instead. I don't recommend a bike. They made my nuts numb.

basically shorter saddle where u balls don't get smashed. still hurts like hell tho on your ass bones. So that's also why is stated u gotta be fit already, and u gotta have quality pants with padding.

If I had to choose, elliptical. It’s much easier to get the heart rate up and more of a full body exercise IMO. But I usually alternate which one I do at the gym along with walking hills with the dog and ring fit at home.

I'd rather have an assault bike with a medicine ball, cushioned plyobox, a good jump rope, and/or some battle ropes. Your conditioning options would be a lot more exciting and there would be less maintenance fees in the long run. I use a treadmill and elliptical all the time in the gym for warm ups or rest day cardio but they are always being serviced/repaired to the point where I'd never buy one myself.

Really, if you can exercise outside, you should do that. Outside bike...outside run. outside walk even....It will keep you much more engaged.

Get a real bike plus a Wahoo Kickr (they have different tiers from cheap to expensive). Coupled with a Zwift membership and you are good to go. Climbing on a Kickr in Zwift is like a stair climber almost XD

Plus you get to translate your fitness to the outside, maybe even find people/friends to go on rides together. In Zwift you are basically playing an bike RPG, where you can also do all kinds of activity with real people or alone. And for once the achievements from this RPG are actually yours too.

Elliptical are a fucking waste. You can be an Elliptical God but as soon as I go out and ask you to run an 8 minute mile you'll be sucking air and giving up half way through.
Bikes are much better for actual cardio and fitness but nothing can replace running.
I was super skeptical about stationary bikes and fitness but after I started using my GF's Peloton I was a believer.
She even started using the Peloton app with my standard non-Peloton treadmill its actually pretty great!
Not to shill too hard, but getting a standard Peloton bike with the App subscription is a pretty great start. She also loves the Yoga sessions.

EDIT: But if you're in a area with decent air quality, decent weather, and a good safe trail/path system then start running outdoors. I'm not a fan of road bikes because people are shit and too many people die out here too often. Plus truck choads rolling coal.

An elliptical w/ handle bars where you can adjust the resistance is awesome. You can have one hell of a workout if you push yourself and really crank up the resistance/difficulty. However, I'd actually go with a real bike and get a smart trainer attached to something like Zwift which is all the craze nowadays. You get to tour around a virtual world with other people, enter races etc.

Ellipticals are for people who don't really work out but like to pretend that they are.
Go running or get on a bike if you're serious about your fitness (stationary bike or treadmill are fine too).

A water-rower works too if your knees and joints can't handle the strain.

I'll sign on to the rowing machine idea if you got the room for it. It's the best full body workout machine I've used.

Bike is the laziest kind of exercise, if you can even call it like that, you basically sitting on your ass motionless except the legs... Get an elliptic where your entire body does the work.

Went from +125kg to 80 trough ellipticals so I will always swear by them as a begginer entry.
The advanced stages of fat loss is never doing cardio again and that just feels good man.

Really expensive ellipticals are great but cheap ones are really bad. Cheap exercise bikes can even be great. I prefer my Peloton for inside and my 2 mountain bikes for outside.

I choose bike. And do add in resistance(weights) training as it is very important to maintain healthy bones and muscle mass.

Elliptical.

At least in my case the stress on the knees is lighter and it is just more fun to do.

Also i sweat much more because you move more parts of your body at the same time, i know sweat is not exactly a measurememt of good work but it make you think that you are loosing more weight and this trick your brain, at least it worked for me when i was obese.

Last butcnit least, in my gym the elliptic machine is behind the tapis roulant so i can enioy the view when some milf try to maintain her 50 years old ass toned and fuckable.

Get a cheap exercise bike + pedals with clips and shoes to go with them. I try to do 30 minutes a day while watching a show and time just flies by.

Elliptical. 100%. I mix it up with outdoor road running and free weights and it’s pretty amazing for core strength and toning. Works the arms and upper body as well as legs and ass. Get the elliptical.

I bought a Nordic track s22i and kind of regret because I got bored of the video content after a few weeks. Should have stuck with the cheaper bike I already had and continued to watch video on an ipad

You're welcome.

Edit: If you already have an actual bike then:

Get a Concept2 rower or a StairMaster, much better options imo. StairMaster if you want to focus on burning them calories, that shit is the devil.

What do y'all think of this?

Seems like the best bang for the buck.

I don't need shmancy instructor-led video sessions in exotic locations. Just a good machine at a good price.
concept 2 is the golden standard when it comes to rowers.

I'd rather spend the money on a good mountain bike and hit the forest trails. Fun and great cardio.

Or go running/jogging, which is basically free. Fresh air, sunshine and everything in between.

This assuming you have a lot of sidewalks and/or trails in your area. Otherwise, yeah, go for the elliptical machine.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I've had an exercise bike at home for almost 2 years and have been using it almost daily and it seems to get the job done just fine.

Running is the best activity outside of swimming, but man is it hard on the ankles and the knees, especially if you are 40 years old +. Between the two options highlighted here, I'd go with biking; I have been using a stationary bike after I strained my right ankle, and I really enjoy my sessions (three times a week). The results are average so far, as I am slowly recovering, but I shall persevere!
