Experimentations with Xbox 360 custom soundtracks.

I know most people think this feature is kind of silly, but I've always been a fan of it. Which games are you looking forward to using custom soundtracks on? What are your favorite CD's to use for this purpose?

Also, I read that you can use your burned CD's now (I think), so I have quite a few ideas. My first 360 title will be a driving game, so it would have supported them anyway.
 
I love the fact that i can plug my ipod in 360. Up to date playlist :D

Id mostly use it for PGR3, DOA4 and maybe RR6

What I would love with game soundtracks is to where instead of just being "on" or "off" they could be interrupted by the games music as well.

For instance, you are listening to some of your own tunes, jamming out to some obscure emo band while your character is walking down the street when suddenly the yakuza goons pull up next to you and pull their weapons. Emo music may be what the devs would put in the game anyway but very doubtful, so instead your tunes are cut out and the games dramatic music comes in on cue.
 
Got to have custom soundtrack for my racing games. I always select certain music tracks for the hard races, like if I have that track on it inspires me to win the race. I love the feature, can't wait to use it in Oblivion :D
 
good to see that XP machines can dump music on the 360

Looks like I might actually use this feature for once, as well. Can't wait to play some FFXI to Panthera, Clancey Bros., and Three 6 among other likely fits
 
i think it'd be cool as hell to be able to share music in game meaning having the option to have other players hear what ur listening to.
 
Tracks from the Matrix and Rocky films. Insert those within PGR3 and thats a combo killer.:)

Yaknow thank god for this feature-no more trashy tunes from EA racers now. We all win because we'll be able to enjoy a next gen. Road Rash without our ears bleeding.
 
Btw-does anyone rip any 10 second music samples for when a new ball player steps up to the plate? Or when special events happen like homeruns,closers run in from the bullpen,double plays,stuff like that? I add it in my games all the time,it makes for some really nice fist pumping boosters, when the game is on the line.
 
Based on the feature's (lack of) popularity last generation, I think that most non-MS developers will neither acknowledge the feature, nor will they have any say about its utilization.

So basically no on the customization. Like if I'm playing Oblivion, I think it will be an "anytime I want to hear some music" thing.
 
The xbox 360 will also playback mp3s from a DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW. Pretty much like any modern DVD player. I'm just surprised it will read that media, they must be very confident about their copy protection.

You can do that with anyone on your friends list, but only if it's an Xbox Live Arcade game I think. You can also share photos with anyone on your friends list. If they allowed you to stream music while playing Xbox 360 games it would probably affect gameplay.

I absolutely love doing this - especially the walk-up music. This honestly had me playing Inside Pitch on the XBox way longer than I would have without custom soundtracks...

IMO - it is even more important in football games....
 
BlueCondor,I tried it for football games last year and definitely-it makes the game so much better. Taking your own soundtracks play for kick offs and for when the game is on the line type situations rocks.
 
I loaded the ol' Xdude up with a shit ton of booty rap and strip club standards for DOA: XBV. Nothing quite like playing some hot volleyball action and listening to "Ass n Titties" by the Three 6 Mafia.
 
Does anyone with networking knowledge know, would it affect online gameplay if you were streaming songs from your PC to the Xbox 360 while playing a game online?

I used the Jet Grind Radio and Parappa soundtracks for Morrowind (PC version) The Parappa songs where the battle music :b
 
I love the custom soundtracks feature, but I'll probably be hesitant to use it for games like Oblivion or other non-sports/racing type of games. I don't want to miss out on the original soundtracks for those games.

Well the idea behind the feature is that it must work always. It's the gamers choice. Sure some choices may seem silly but they allow them to make it.
 
I wanna play Halo 3 to the backstreet boys, i dont know why, i dont like the backstreet boys, theres just a sweet irony to it i want to experience.


I intend to stick a load of showtunes on my mp3 player to play Condemed with as well, again no real reason other than comedy factor.
 
Huh. Reminds of Cinematech's Manhunt vid: Lame "Funniest Home Videos"-esque comedy music along with laughtrack accompanying every stealth kill. I liked it.

Ya - I was playing ESPN 2K5 a little last year, and their editor was great for this.

But - this is the thing I don't get with the 360 - even though MS says that custom soundtracks "will now be a part of every game, etc." it is still going to be on the developer to give us the ability to use them in-game. TT/VC had that great program developed where you could not only pick the music for specific situations (like after TDs, fumbles, INTs, pre-game, etc.), but where you could also take those short 10 second samples from songs on your hard drive.

So - like always - just having the capability for custom soundtracks is still something that developers can choose to use or not use. EA, in particular, has never made it a point-of-emphasis to give us the ability to use our songs in-game. I guess I would like to believe that this will all change with the 360, but something tells me not to get my hopes up.
 
The impression given is that 360 games all have the same soundtrack framework that allows users to swap in custom music. I do imagine you are right though and it will be up to developers to really make it something that works in the context of the game.

I wouln't mind trying a Silent Hill game,or any other game in this genre with a bunch of my John Carpenter mp3s(the Fog,Halloween,The Thing,Escape from New York.)

I'm not sure that necessarily means it will work with games though. This sounds to be part of the 360 desktop feature-set, not necessarily anything beyond that. Current gen X-box games just look for audio files in a folder, so it is up to whether M$ actually has some libraries for handling streaming audio available to developers for in-game usage.

While it certainly should be relatively easy to do ... I'm not sure devs will bother unless it's basically automatic.

(just a guess obviously)

When couldn't you? I've used custom CDs on my xbox before and they've copied just fine.
 
Heavy Metal's soundtrack seems like it would work with FullAuto.

I also think the FAO Schwartz theme song would go well with Kameo

I don't plan on putting any songs on the 20 gig drive, I'll be connecting my I River and using the music from that.

I'm most curious how well the system, and particularly the Neon visualizer, will support surround music. Examples:

DTS CDs
Dolby and DTS 5.1 tracks on DVD-Audio and DualDisc discs
5.1 WMA
 
Iron Maiden whilst slaying ogres in Oblivion RAWRRR!!...also Nick Drake.
Actually the LOTR ost+Oblivion would probably be pretty cool.

Hendrix/Preist/Rush/Gamma Ray/Joe Satriani, and yes....Dream Theater with PGR3, oh and Death cab for Cutie, no one would expect......errr....anyways.

Random J-Pop and Anime OSTs for DOA4...odd choice, I know.

If one can randomly stream songs from the PC HDD I'll probably just throw everything into a giant mix like I usually do (pretty much played half of Ninja Gaiden with my laptop hooked to the stereo.).

Oh yes, and Katamari (especially with Halo!) Actually for some reason 80s songs (think GTA:VC) sound kinda fun with Halo 3 multiplayer.
