So I've got a 160GB barracuda that I've had for nearly a year now, and I still haven't hooked it up yet.

I've either got to put it in an enclosure, or get an IDE controller card, as I don't have any open IDE slots.

Which is the better solution?

If you are planning to run programs from it, go with PCI IDE. If you are just using it to store stuff, the enclosure much better.

Replace one of your internal drives with it and move the drive you replace to an enclosure.

Enclosures are just so frickin' handy, everyone should have one. PCI IDE controllers, on the other hand, give you little gain.

The internal drives on this PC are all SATA. Can't do that

If you're gonna be running programs... IDE.
If you are using it for storage or media, get an external enclosure. I strongly suggest the Vantec Nexstar. No fans, but sufficent cooling (unless you have a Maxtor )

Eh then just put it in an external enclosure, on Firewire if you've got it.

While on topic, I have a HDD on an IDE controller card. It takes a long time to read when the PC boots, is there anyway to make it faster? (it is a data drive)
