F-Zero GP Legend - Gamespot review

8.0

The fact that F-Zero holds up to modern gameplay standards is proof that it wasn't just liberal use of Mode-7 scaling that made the game revolutionary all those years ago. The classic has been nicely expanded here, with interesting story sequences that add a little more depth to an otherwise-straightforward racing game. It may be pretty similar to the last F-Zero for the GBA, but if you've yet to play a portable F-Zero, GP Legend can be recommended over its predecessor, as it features more modes and characters, and it is therefore a better value.

God that guy has a porno name if ever there was one. And I'm told it is his real name. How come some people get cool last names, like Score, Nutt, or Wang, and the rest of us had ancestors who decided to just be Smiths or Joneses. (Although Johnson is a fun one)

I'm a little curious how this game could be "a little similar" to the last GBA F Zero game since, you know, it barely played like F Zero. Oh, it was awesome in its own right, but the gameplay in MV was completely different.

*shrugs*

Though I haven't played this one yet, it is my understanding that it plays much more like F Zero X and GX/AX than MV, or even the more classic SNES style.

I hated Maximum Velocity... will I like this?
Same here, and yes, I like Legend. Having said that, it's still not as good as the Super NES version. The Super NES version just felt more "right."

Two major things that are better in Legend compared to Maximum Velocity:

1.) The steering feels more forgiving, much closer to the Super NES version.

2.) The graphics are infinitely more vibrant, which -- again -- is more like the Super NES version. The graphics in Maximum Velocity were so "gray" and "empty," for lack of better words. This one actually has color in it.

Maximum Velocity was great, steep learning curve and ruthless AI included. Best racer on GBA so far by a wide margin, and from what I've heard of GP Legend it won't come close (though it has nice music).
