F-Zero X and F-Zero DD Decomps Almost 100% Done! PC Port Next?

N64 decomps, N64 recomps and N64 PC ports are legit heating up in 2026 and now the F-Zero X decomp AND the F-Zero X DD decomp is SO CLOSE to 100% decompiled with under 3% to go! Imagine a F-Zero X PC port in the future because this could lead to that! This is why retro gaming is making a comeback!
  • (00:01–00:23)
The creator introduces the topic: F-Zero X and its expansion F-Zero X Expansion Kit are nearing full decompilation, amid a surge of N64 decompilation and PC port projects in 2026.
  • (00:23–01:04)
Speculation that a PC port could arrive before the end of the year, potentially featuring widescreen, higher frame rates, online multiplayer, and user-generated content.
  • (01:19–02:14)
Explanation of decompilation: converting compiled game code back into source code using tools like Ghidra, enabling PC ports or recompilation.
  • (02:14–02:33)
    Current progress:
    • F-Zero X: 97.25% complete
    • Recent updates include support for the Expansion Kit (DD version).
  • (02:33–03:14)
The DD version adds major features like a course editor and custom vehicle creation, which could be transformative in a PC port—especially with online sharing (similar to Super Mario Maker).
  • (03:14–03:52)
Decompilation is complex: every function (graphics, audio, controls) must be manually reconstructed. Even the final ~3% can take significant time, so no clear completion ETA.
  • (03:52–04:11)
Important note: reaching 100% decompilation does not guarantee an immediate PC port, though fan demand for F-Zero makes it likely.
  • (05:52–06:40)
The DD version (never released outside Japan due to the failed Nintendo 64DD) includes a robust track editor, which could shine in a modern PC version with mods and online sharing.
  • (07:06–07:46)
F-Zero X DD decompilation is also highly advanced at 97.10%, progressing alongside the base game, with shared code speeding up development.
  • (08:05–09:42)
The creator envisions a "revival" of the franchise via PC:
    • Community-created tracks
    • Expanded features beyond the original DD vision
    • A new life for the game through mods and online play
  • (09:42–10:05)
Final thoughts: the project is close to completion, and a future PC port could finally realize the full creative potential originally intended for the DD expansion.

I see Video Game Esoterica I mute - this stupid voice he forces is beyond bearable

Any summary?

EDIT:
Fine, I'll do it myself

  • Video covers updated progress on F-Zero X and F-Zero X DD decompilation projects
  • Both are around 97% complete, meaning only a small portion of code is left
  • Last steps are often the hardest and can take unpredictable time
  • Decompilation is the process of rebuilding full source code from the compiled game
  • Tools like Ghidra help, but most work is manual and very detailed
  • Every system must be recreated, including graphics, audio, controls, and game logic
  • You do not need 100% completion to start a PC port, but it helps
  • Static recompilation is another method, but decomp gives more flexibility
  • F-Zero X is a popular N64 game, so fans are likely to support a PC version
  • A PC port could include better performance, higher frame rates, and widescreen
  • There is potential for added features like online multiplayer
  • The soundtrack and gameplay would benefit from modern hardware
  • F-Zero X DD was only released in Japan on the failed 64DD add-on
  • It includes a course editor and machine customization features
  • Very few people played it due to limited release
  • The DD version is also about 97% decompiled and progressing alongside the base game
  • Both projects share code, so progress in one helps the other
  • A major idea is bringing the DD course editor into a PC port
  • Players could create, save, and share custom tracks
  • Could lead to a system similar to Mario Maker but for F-Zero
  • Mods could expand content even further
  • No official confirmation of a PC port or release timeline
  • Even at 100% decompiled, a port is not guaranteed
  • Creator believes it could happen due to strong fan interest
  • If it does, it could revive the game with a large creative community

Oh nice, finally a good port. Shame on Nintendo for fucking up the release on their subscription.

Shit... I was thinking that it was the GameCube F-Zero.

I wouldn't if some mods improve the 20 polygon "cars".

The 64DD fzero construction kit is a novelty at best, i got bored with it pretty fast as there's only so much you can do with it. There's a reason the DD bombed & it's not all down to the hardware.

Improvements i need:

- Unlimited draw distance so the whole track is visible
- Disable LOD so the ships are always the close up detail models
- Unlimited frame rate support
- Proper widescreen
- Stereo sound/music (though this is already done natively by the expansion)

I'm sure it will happen quick. That always seems to be one of the first things people focus on once these recomps get dropped.
