F1 22 virtual reality support will be exclusive to PC, no plan for PSVR and PSVR2 (at this time)

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

They seems to say they don’t want to compromise the VR experience, hence they are skipping VR on PSVR2

In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, the game’s Senior Creative Director, Lee Mather, revealed that Codemasters has “no plans at this time” to add VR support for either Playstation VRor the in-development PSVR 2.

“We’ve been investigating VR for some time and we want to bring it to our F1 game without compromise,” Mather said. “We have partnered with a team who has worked on other Codemasters’ titles and it has taken several years to get us to this point where we know we can deliver a premium experience for our players.”

F1 22 is scheduled for release on July 1 across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. At the game’s official unveiling in April, Codemasters announced that only PC players would be able to race in VR at launch, but it wasn’t clear whether the developer intended to offer PlayStation VR users the same functionality later down the line.

Now, though, we know that console players may have to wait until F1 2023 for the pleasure.

The current list of VR headsets compatible with F1 2022 on PC are as follows:

Obviously they're not going to support PSVR2. It doesn't even have a release date and F1 22 comes out in less than 2 months. If they want to support PSVR2 with the series they'll wait till F1 23. It has nothing to do with "They seems to say they don’t want to compromise the VR experience, hence they are skipping VR on PSVR2" that comes into paly with the original PSVR.

The original PSVR they won't support because the PS4 just isn't powerful enough. GT Sport couldn't even support it well being limited to 1v1 races.

Maybe (going by rumours) PSVR2 has been delayed till 2023 so that's why they won't support it for F1 2022.

I'm sure when F1 2023 comes out they will support it.

Also, on PC there is Assetto Corsa F1 2022 mod. Its amazing and physics/handling is much more realistic compared to EA F1 series..

tbf i think only recently devs start to get the vr2 dev kits, that statement is true for psvr1 that's for sure

Well, their statement is pretty definite instead of a vague "We can't confirm anything yet".

Dude is obviously only talking about PSVR1. PSVR2 is not out yet and might take another half a year to come out.

Seriously, what's with people deliberately twisting the quote?

Well it matter because the statement suggest there's no plan at all. Regardless if it is released.
Yeah I assume so. But isn't because they don't want to compromise. You'll be able to play this on the lowest pc vr. Is not they making exclusive to index or something

"no plans at this time to add VR support for either Playstation VR or the in-development PSVR 2."
"We’ve been investigating VR for some time and we want to bring it to our F1 game without compromise,”

These two statements do not combine to equal "We're not bringing it to PSVR2 because we don't want the experience to be compromised."

They are two separate quotes you are combining into one. The game was never going to support PSVR2 because it releases months before PSVR2 and it is an annual series. Why would they waste time patching PSVR2 support into F1 22 in December 2022 or whenever the headset comes out when they can just focus on F1 23 that is right around the corner. As soon as F1 22 is released they will be fully focused on F1 23, not going back allocating development resources to a game that will be made completely irrelevant by it's imminent successor.

I don't see what the problem is. The F1 launch doesn't remotely align psvr2's release. Psvr1 is out of the question. Its more of a timing thing, that studio will be knee deep in development with their next game by the time psvr2 rolls around, even if thats later this year.

Just wait. Some dude will find a way to spin this into: "PSVR2 will be DOA as it won't get support from the devs".

Cannot wait to dive into some F1 in VR. Asseto Corsea is great in VR also hopefully the addition into F1 is fluid.

If the psvr2 specs are true there isn't a single vr headset better than it on the market right now, still doesn't make sense.
Too bad it attaches to a PS5 that will continue to fall further and further behind between now and the headset's launch. A 2060ish GPU will be at least four generations old by then to say nothing of being the budget model.

There's literally no hyperbole there. The PS5 has roughly a 2060 in it. Since then, there have been Supers and 30X0s. The 40X0s will arrive later this year, and one more generation will come next fall. That's four generations, assuming the PSVR2 makes it by holiday 2023.

"There is literally no hyperbole..." proceeds with another one

Dude I got no time for your trolling. Psvr2 isn't releasing next holiday when people already had hands on. Secondly rtx 2060 is 6gb. 3rd developers aren't dropping the the computers with with midrange hardware to work exclusively on the rtx40xx or whatever so stop dreaming. 4th psvr2 has eye tracking and foved rendering which maximise the potential of the gpu.

Formula 1 in VR is finally here! Check out this brand new, intense PC VR gameplay footage, of Codemasters F1 22. In this quickfire five-lap Formula One race, you'll see Charles Leclerc in his Ferrari, battling it out in wet conditions, as he tries to secure pole position during the Canadian Grand Prix. This was recorded using an Oculus Meta Quest 2.

Probably gonna happen for F1 23. Remember guys that PC VR sets have minimum reqs as well. Not everyone plays in VR on the newest 3000-4000$ rigs.

Considering Sony fucked PC gamers out of Resident Evil 7 and Ace Combat VR, I’m totally fine with this.
Capcom and Namco are more likely the culprits here. They did nothing after their exclusivity period expired.

IOI did release Hitman 3VR on PC a year after PSVR. (Though the less said about that half-assed mode, the better)

I put the blame on Sony for asking for exclusivity in the first place.

By the time the year ended it probably wasn’t worth them going back and spending resources updating games that were now much cheaper.

My index is sitting in the box as I've procrastinated since moving into the new house. I have the 28" G7 and 65" OLED set up as a second monitor. Too lazy lol

I do have the Thrustmaster T300RS set up on the PC though.

My point is that I'm ready for this!
