Fable might have been scaled down due to engine issues and lack of wrpg expertise. Could release later than expected.

I swear that if Microsoft messes up Fable again.. that'll be the last nail in the coffin for them..

I LOVE that game series, they better do it justice dammit.

Xbox really need to nail Fable, Avowed and Perfect Dark. There can be no excuses. They all need to be stellar games.
You're right but to do that they need a plan leadership and realistic deadlines.

Seems like they don't so I doubt they will.
Scaled down or not, I hope things work out for them.
Me too.

But I don't think it's failure will be a big deal for playground and/or Microsoft.

And even if it fails, if they're using the Forza Engine it might still be good for their engine going forward.

I actually feel for some of these developers. How are they meant to be truly passionate about somebody else's baby? I have more confidence in Avowed being a great game over Fable and Perfect Dark.

I'm getting more and more worried about this game. It's the only confirmed Xbox game I'm really interested in but the rumours get worse and worse.
Playground are really talented but I am wondering whether they are right for the project.
They are often compared to Guerrilla Games when people talk about a studio switching genres, but this does seem like a mammoth undertaking for a studio known for racing games. The environments will look lush, but I do worry about the RPG elements. Guerrilla took two goes at Horizon to get the world to feel more alive and the mocap right. When this was announced they directly referenced Zero Dawn as an inspiration but things have moved on a lot since then.

Playground Games is a great studio, definitely one of the best Xbox has but the scale of this project combined with how big games involving Microsoft always end up now. Its not looking good.

A Series without its long time creator doesn't have an identity.
Well. to be fair Molyneux was basically a PR guy who overpromised and was always coming up with extra stuff to pressure the team. The team was in panic in events like E3 when they had their plates full as it is and molyneux would go on to promise multiplayer or some other game mechanic that wasn't implemented and meant a lot more than the flick of a switch.

What I mean is, the fact that the games didn't suck was never down to Molyneux but the talented folks he sucked the living talent out of.

I think Fable could have been a nice fit for Rareware veterans, Playground probably needs to hire people a bit like that.
The issues with Fable have nothing to do with gender or Skin color. What are you talking about?
I think he meant issues with Playground Games? But I know nothing from their recruitment process/criteria.

I know 343 Industries has a stupid "reverse prejudice" ethos in order to claim themselves to be "inclusive" perhaps more studios at Microsoft do, dunno. (but Playground doesn't seem the sort, even if it's full of whatever demographic is considered inclusive - demographic doesn't matter results do)

Fable was always pretty limited in terms of scope and gameplay so I don't think people are expecting it to be some huge game changer.

It's hard to have a strong opinion on this without having even seen the game. Based on the recurring problems of bloat and overpromises in the industry, this could be a good thing. Never played a Fable though.

If this is coming from Colt and one of his acolytes then you know it's bad.

The minute this was announced this sounded weird, and it's not comparable to Guerilla moving from a FPS to a third-person action game.

Never played Fable before and want to see what it's about, but feel like this won't be out until 2025.

I hope you never adopt kids, I can imagine orphanage Billy getting 1 present at Christmas while your own little angel gets 10. "lollipop_disappointed:

Isn't this news months old?

Yeah, apparently...

"Fernandez reveals Playground had some trouble adapting to making an open-world game where you don't blast around in fancy cars at 200 mph."

The guy in the video is saying the same thing reported almost three months ago. Playground is having problems using the Forza Horizon open world engine in an RPG.

I'm really hoping that this turns out good and that Playground Games add another string to their bow with an RPG as they make excellent driving games.

That being said, none of the news about this has filled me with confidence and it seems that anything new we hear about is an attempt at dampening the blow of this game not being that good and lowering player expectations (which are probably far too high anyway).

Lots of franchises get great entries from different developers Retro:Metroid and Donkey Kong, Platinum Games:Metal Gear Rising, Eidos Montréal: Deus Ex Human Revolution, Capcom:Zelda.

I can imagine lots of people would be excited and passionate to help work on Perfect Dark and Fable.
I can also imagine the pressure to deliver is probably high, especially since the last few entries in both where a bit... subpar 😬

Microsoft could do with some good news.

It's time the fruits of their labor show *something*. They've made all the right moves but god damn why are there always caveats and bad rumors/news?

Watched the video. Massive pinch of salt.

No way is Playground of all devs having issues with Forzatech, and the bit about 'expertise' makes no sense since they've been hiring from the start to bring in that capability.

Looks more like it's well known that rumors like this brings more clicks.

A source that apparently doesn't leak the target release window, can't leak any info on story or setting or any relevant info on the game…how's that a source? 😂

Why is all xbox news so depressing lately?

Rumor =/= News.
