Fallout 3 release date announced

Fallout 3 Available October 28

Major Launch Planned for the Winner of E3 2008’s “Best of Show”

August 20, 2008 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that its highly anticipated title, Fallout® 3, will be available on store shelves and online in North America on October 28, 2008 and in Europe on October 31, 2008. Developed at Bethesda Game Studios – creators of the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® – Fallout 3 is slated for release on the Xbox 360®video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

“We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year.”

Fallout 3 features one of the most realized game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C. however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated games for 2008, Fallout 3 has already won numerous awards including Best of Show from the official Game Critics Awards at E3 2008, a selection voted on by an independent group of journalists from 36 leading North American media outlets that cover the videogame industry.

Fallout® 3 has not yet been rated by the ESRB. For more information on Fallout 3, visit http://fallout.bethsoft.com.

Was hoping for early October but hey! Can't wait.

Son of a...

Dead Space 6 days before that? Through in Little Big Planet and Resistance 2... I am so going broke by mid November.

Fable 2 and Fallout 3 a week a part, err. No matter still guy both pre-ordered and just more game time over the holidays.

No hard date until today.

they should announce a global public holiday for the months of October and November, or the ps3 should have some sort of time stasis feature (4d?) just so I can get through the games without destroying my life

Wait, what? I thought this was supposed to come out early october! I planned a week off of work and everything for Fallout 3! Oh well, let's see if I can reschedule.

In 1 week:

Dead Space
Star Ocean PSP
Bioshock
Fallout 3
LBP

I don't know where to set the priorities.

Well first you have to set priorities on a few things, Fallout 3 will have a GOTY edition next year if you DO wait with the expansion if Beth does things their usual way

Next look at Star Ocean, that game will probably get a smaller release, I don't know what their expectations are, but it might become rarer a lot sooner than the others

LBP is going to be a lot of fun (the one game making me miss my PS3 ;.;) BUT the game is going to get a huge Christmas push, if Sony has any brains in marketing at least, so it will be widely available with tonnes of content if you ask for it for Christmas (or any other holiday pending on religious beliefs :))

Bioshock is already on PC and 360, its just a port, might wanna wait for price drop unless really REALLY want it.

Dead Space I don't know much about so no advice on that.

MUST GET GAME OUT IN FALL BECAUSE THEY DON'T SELL AT ANY OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR! This kinda shit is gonna be the death of the industry :/

THANK YOU!

The only games I rush for anymore are niche titles that I really want :)

Fuck damnit!

I thought this was going to be the 7th, but they had to have it at the end during the huge rush. There is a nice break with vew games between the first and the 14th of october, yet all the game have to come out on the damn week around the 20th.

This shit isn't actually possible even for a hardcore gamer like me...

Dead Space: 10/20
Project Origin: 10/28
Fable 2: 10/21
Fallout 3: 10/28
Left 4 Dead: 11/04
Gears of War 2: 11/07
Banjo 3: 11/11

:lol:lol:lol

And I'm sure there are some I've missed.

Whatever, I always love chill time around late October/November/December with the cooler weather. I'll work 40 hours a week +overtime up until the Gears launch then go part time :lol. Fucking ridiculous though...

For me it is:

14th
Saints Row 2
Naruto PS3
SOCOM

20th:
Dead Space
Little Big Planet
Fable 2
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia

28th
Fallout 3

Then right after this is the GoW2 and Resistance 2 rush followed by Mirror's Edge, Valkyria Chronicles, Banjo, Left 4 Dead, and Prince of Persia. NOT to forget games like MM9 that are DD.

Spread this shit out! the summer was practically dead.

Ýou know what Fallout 3 is day one for me and I can't fucking WAIT to play it but I completely agree with this thread devolving into complaints about a cluttered fall/holiday season. Good games sell no matter when released, especially games that are hyped and/or are from an established franchise. This year has been pretty meek so far but games like Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart Wii, GTA4, MGS4, etfrikkincetera have all sold MILLIONS! What the hell is so beneficial about releasing your game in the same timeframe as dozens of others, some of which are in the same genre and appeal to the same demographic. Ugh.

BUT YEAH. FALLOUT 3. I am very excited about it - moreso than any other game this year besides maybe Fable 2 - but games do cost money. Fable 2 is released in the same week argh.

Niche titles and good games lower budget games are the ones that are going to suffer the most if released this fall.

Didn't I read somewhere that the summer drought was started by Nintendo to make sure kids went outside?

The summer drought is the best part of gaming, you go camping and everything, have fun, enjoy life, Winter when its cold out (-40C is regular where I live) is the time for gaming :)

Ima get this at some point. I love the old ones too much for this to be day one, but I'll get it when others are beaten.

You all make it sound like you are gonna play all those games. Why not save your wallet some hurt and pick some up at a later date?

Don't complain about games coming out together. Simply buy the ones that are going to have a short-lived multi-player component first and leave the single player games for a later date. The bonus is they'll be cheaper when you do go to buy them.

I am going to play all those games :P And that's exactly the point; I am going to wait on most of these games and so will most other people, I think. It doesn't make sense to rely on a holiday season for a game to sell.

Out of all the games on my list, this is a must for me. Along side, LBP and R2 of course. Thank god my best friend next door owns a 360 so I could play Gears 2 and Fable 2. Otherwise I would miss out on some great games this year.

Dead Space I don't know much about so no advice on that.

First thing, I don't have a 360 yet, so F3 DLC is probably a moot point in my case.

Star Ocean 1, I never played, and I have a little bit of RPG withdrawl due to the PS3's situation, so that might get a high spot on the list.

LBP, still don't really know how excited I am for that one, I will probably buy it for the hype alone. If it isn't my kind of game, off with it to ebay.

And yeah, I actually really like to play Bioshock, I only played the PC demo at a friends, and the trophy support just might tip me over on that one. I also hear it's released at a lower pricepoint, so why not. Still an amazing game from what I hear.

Then you have GOW2, and R2 right behind.
I don't know what to think of R2. I just don't get what makes this game so special and sets it apart from most other shooters. The huge online multiplayer? I don't really know..

14th
Saints Row 2
Naruto PS3
SOCOM

20th:
Dead Space
Little Big Planet
Fable 2
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia

28th
Fallout 3

I'm actually interested in some of these too (SR2, Naruto, just for the awesome graphics) but I already did set some priorities, so those will definitely have to wait. Mirror's Edge and Valkyria are must buys again in November, definitely.

Throw in DD titles, and I might just be drowning in gaming awesomeness. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Edit: BTW, I plan on getting a 360 soon, but it looks like it would be ridiculous to do it this year with all the games coming out on PS3 even. Beginning of next year might be a good point to catch up with all those games I missed on it.

There's no way I'll be ready for it by then. LittleBigPlanet and Bioshock are out the week before. Resistance and Gears are coming shortly after!

If Oblivion is any indication, its going to take at least a month to really enjoy this. I just won't have the time.

#1 The DLC will probably be on the PS3 with the GOTY edition, as I said, which will be the game + DLC + Expansion in one package

#2 Don't fall for hype, actually research the game, rent it if your unsure, 5-8 bucks for a rental is a lot better than the at least 20$ loss if you don't like a game, trust me renting is the best thing I ever did. I rented Civ Rev, played it, had fun, but by the third game I realized it was one of those things that wouldn't last me long, and the trade in value was like 30 at EB at the time so I saved myself 22 dollars by renting :)

GAF is NOT always right about games, LBP will be amazing but just because some like it doesn't mean you will, base it on games YOU like :)

Personally I'm moaning because I've been waiting for Fallout 3 since 1999 and LittleBigPlanet really does look like the Game of Forever. So they are both Day 1 for me. The rest of the Fall games I was going to pick up at my leisure, and if they got good reviews. I was under the impression that F3 would be coming out October 7 around in line with my uni break and I'd have a good amount of time to play through it at my leisure before LBP which I would pick up and fiddle with in between study for exams. It was a plan. It was a good plan. Now they fucked my plan. Now I have to juggle two games. Why. WHY. There are probably people out there with leprosy and tuberculosis and if they still had their sight they'd read this and feel my pain.

Yeah I'm sure a Multi-billion dollar company like MS has lawyers that are stupid enough to secure DLC but make it so it can come to a different console if it's disc based.... It's GTA IV DLC all over again =\

Oblivions DLC (not just expansion but Nights of the Nine) was brought to the PS3 through a GOTY edition, not ALL the DLC but just the important stuff

I think I am going to end up buying like 20 games from now till November. This fall is really retarded with releases, much more so then last year.

#1 I don't know if I believe your DLC theory, do you have any evidence for that? Maybe I will wait because I'm not too hyped for it but if it turns out to be really good, I just might buy it on release. I really don't know yet.

#2 I'm not going on hype alone, I know what the game is about, but since I have never played anything alike, I don't know if I would like it. I'm normally not a very creative person, but I'd love to play awesome stuff others create and the online co-op creation sounds great.
I preordered it in the UK with a voucher for 48€, so if I sell it on my local ebay close to release, I'll even make a slight profit on it. Renting doesn't do that for you. :lol

Oblivion's DLC wasn't exclusive, they didn't get any money to make it exclusive. The only reason it wasn't released as DLC for the PS3 was they said there was a technical issue involving memory that they couldn't fix.

I had never even played a western RPG before Oblivion.. and I'm looking forward to the release of Fallout 3 more than ANY OTHER GAME in years. I can't wait to get knee deep in this masterpiece.

I'd love to buy most of these games (except for Fallout 3), but I'm just going to get Little Big Planet, and once I'm sick of it (lol wut?), I'll buy the rest. So judging by how sexy LBP is, I won't be playing these games until 2010.

Evidence? For like the third time Oblivion GOTY came with the expansion and DLC content >.<

Also, the GTAIV DLC was a timed exclusive thing, and I believe the clock is still ticking, so we shall see how that works ;) I don't know, since I boycott DLC in all forms, if a game isn't finished I either dont buy it or else I skip DLC, but I hate Digital Distribution (Damn VC is making me cheat on that rule ;.; just not lately at least XD)

You don't have to be creative to enjoy LBP, you can enjoy the other games made with it, but I would say that a lot of them are gonna be lame... the real shiners wont hit until at least 6 months into the game when people have mastered the toolset :)

so many great games this season!

This year is probably gonna be the best year of gaming since in addition to having my birthday and christmas very close I will officially graduate this December as well (but I dont get to do the walk until after Winter quarter) so I get triple da monies from family this year!
