I drove from Montreal, QC to South Carolina this weekend, heading to Daytona Beach tomorrow. We rented a small condo on the beach for 2 weeks.

I've looked into the usual activites and no way I'm paying 5-600$ CAD for a single day at Disney or a big themed park. We did them in the past when it was cheaper, now the kids are considered adults.

I was wondering if any of you are locals or went there lately and have some suggestions?

Your condo will probably have an entire wall of brochures for attractions. Literally a thousand little places for seeing alligators, mini-golf, helicopter rides, weird museums, etc. If you like American history then St. Augustine is north of you, you can look for the fountain of youth :P

Do a fishing charter. Enjoy all the ladies in bikinis :P

There is a neat light house and marine science center at ponce inlet. MOAS has a nice kids area and planetarium in Daytona but maybe your kids are too old to be interested. Ormond Beach Memorial garden is nice but won't take you long to experience. Daytona Lagoon water park is there but I've never been. The racetrack also has stuff to do if that interests you. Consider going up to St. Augustine, lots of fun stuff there to do and see plus an alligator farm. Kennedy Space Center to the south. Great restaurants all over that area, check out The Garlic.

Daytona has cool stuff all around it. If you want to go to Disney or Universal you are about 2 hours away. If you drive to the other side of the state there is Homasassa springs where you can see Manatee and rent boats to swim with them. But on the East coast there is the Forts, You are an hour and 20 minutes from Cape Canaveral and the space center. GO tour that, and catch a launch if you can. Rocket launch schedules are online. You could even see the rocket trails from the beach in Daytona. I use to see them all the time when I lived in Orlando in the 80s.

You can drive on Daytona beach. There is a race track there if you want to tour that. Probably lots of gokart tracks. and other fun stuff. If you are there 2 weeks orlando has other stuff besides theme parks. I think Gatorland, which is just a big alligator park is near there. Fun for like a few hours. There may be some springs you can go tubing down but I do not know. And the one I use to go to is near Orlando and I think you have to get there 2 hours before opening now. I think you will find cool stuff to do.

If you decide to go Gulf side for a day check out Wiki Watchi Springs mermaid shows. GO to Ocala and do Silver springs with glass bottom boats. Those would all require some drive commitments.

YOU can probably go down the St Johns waterway. It is the only river in North America that flows South to North. But I do not know if that is a family thing. I think a lot of people float and fish on it. I am sure there is deep sea fishing on the East coast, but I think most people do it on the gulf coast.

I just booked a chartered fishing trip out of Port Canaveral for our upcoming vacation. If anyone is interested in fishing, or just seeing different sea life, I'd highly recommend it. We went kayaking at three sisters springs last year, that was a lot of fun.

Just make sure you charter this girls boat..

There are entire feeds of folks who video yachts going into and out of the harbor that spot her. It's nuts.

Brevard Zoo, Kennedy Space Center, St Augustine all come to mind as great spots. St Augustine is great with many things to do from pirate related to visiting the fort. Your hotel will most likely have a ton of stuff listed for tourist as well.

Just remember any body of water in FL has a good chance of gators so be careful, lots of sunblock as well for any outside activities.
