So Beatdown is a beat em up that uses a party system that might be similiar to The Bouncer, and a GTA-style free roaming model...

Thanks!

SD Gundam looks kicky (and it'd be nice if it hit US shores)

Gyakuten Saiban makes me want to point at people all dramatic like. Still shocked that it's confirmed to hit the US, too.

Oh! And I want to have sex with the woman in the top left corner of the contents page. Make it so.

So Gyakuten Saiban isn't just a straight port collection now? I'm going off your post in the reviews thread. Not that it matters for the US at all, but we're going to be getting all three chapters in one here? Color me impressed if that's the case, very impressed. The shot of the guy on the cell phone at the airport is very cool as well. I'm sold. Also, can anyone elaborate what the mic is used for in this? It looks like you use it to call an objection (:lol), but I'm not sure. Oh good times this will bring when I'm out in public playing it.

SD Gundam looks awesome too, I may import this, but I'm not sure yet. It would be rather nice for Bandai to risk just one mecha series to come over here and this one wouldn't have any issues with licenses, but yeah unlikely at best. It's shaping up to be a nice looking game. My only hope is the game offers complete soundtrack rips from the series (at least the openings or songs that are played as "themes" for certain Gundams during battle, basically something much more indepth than a MIDI arrangement of "Rhythm Emotion" for the Wing character). Yeah, I'm hoping for too much, as not even ACE had this, to my knowledge, but it would be nice really.

Still waiting for that one, non-shitty Gundam game, eh Wufei? Don't worry, it'll come one day! If you pray and hope beyond hope, it might even eek out a budget title worth playing! :lol

I tease you because I love.

Heh, nah not really. Super Robot Wars is a great series so far, and while I've played little of SD Gundam Generation, I've heard similar things about its quality. They're much like Fire Emblem, but with mechas and rather beautiful battle sequences.

It's just the issue with the fact that not even SD Gundam Generation comes over here, it won't sell much, but damn it wouldn't hurt any. In fact, I've only bought one Gundam game ever I think. I'm not really that interested in the console games, it's all about the ones on the handhelds for me, but the ones that are brought over for a domestic release are really horrible in comparison to what Japan gets.

I bet that comparrison to Fire Emblem is hyperbole, because there's no way a Gundam game approaches the quality of Fire Emblem! It simply isn't possible! My world view would be shattered.

Yeah pretty much. SRW is nothing close to even Advance Wars. I would say a better comparison is Fist of Mars for GBA, but a typical SRW is harder than that and longer too. The appeal for SRW comes from the crossover aspect and really witty writing. The dialogue rocks, the animation is really good and since they're all licensed robots and characters from different series, it just rocks.

Is this "really witty writing" or "anime witty writing" which translates to "not really witty at all, except to one extremely specific subset of culture"?

I'm just making sure! Gotta know what I'm stumblin' into if I ever try it out!

I wasn't trying to compare the two in terms of quality, but much rather the playing style. Super Robot Wars reminds me very of Fire Emblem actually, just with mechs and maybe more of a classic RPG feel. I'm not saying it's as great as FE and everyone should try them, no way at all, it just gives me the same vibe. The two series are meant for Gundam or mecha fans, not for everyone, but do we really need to debate this here?

If it makes you go off into overlong rants about what kind of asshole I am in certain situations and not accepting rival opinions... then yes :D

It's really witty crossover writing. Instead of sounding like a fanfic, it actually comes off as a professional presentation of a crossover. Think Kingdom Comes as opposed to Marvel vs Capcom. The dialogue is awesome because they capture the characters spot on from like 3-4 dozen different series.

No, it's not that. I just don't really feel like discussing it at the moment, first off it's quite late, and secondly I just don't feel that something like this is on the right track to be nice debate of the game series itself, but rather just me trying to defend my enjoyment of the series or franchise. It would just be different if we were discussing the games as games, not why you and I do or do not play them.

duckroll: So, if I'm not a fan of the series... then... will it appeal to me?
I say, probably not, unless you have quite an interest in other series outside of Gundam that are also present in the SRW series.

SRW games? As long as you enjoy Giant Robots and fun cross-over mayhem, sure. It's not like it's a prerequisite to enjoy the games, you just get more out of them if you like those series. SRW games are solid stuff, while they don't have the easy to pick-up tidyness of Fire Emblem games (or the fact FE games are strategy games without all the extra stuff which seem to turn a lot of folks off), it's in the same arena as FE as a strategy series goes IMO.

Well good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I like SRW just as much as Fire Emblem really, but that's only because it's easy for me to jump right into the characters as I've already seen them and enjoyed them before in the animes. I'm not sure, as I don't really play the game from the mindpoint of someone not in the know of Mecha, that it offers such simple dive into the game much like FE presents. FE characters are usually built from the ground up and are new for everyone, SRW doesn't seem to really be like that and a lot is missed out on if you don't really get any of the characters.

I'm just going to disregard the FE statements for obvious reasons, but I guess this will diminish at least half the fun since I can admit I don't like most giant robots. Although, I guess if you consider the things in ZOE2 "giant robots" then it's an exception. Perhaps I'll check it out at some point, as I'm a huge fan of strategy games.

Assuming you're a huge fan of strategy games, then definitely check them out. The two I mentioned are a real sticklers I think. Some people really don't like giant robots and scoff at the idea of them while others dislike crazy cross-over stuff. Enjoying either of them really makes the game more meaningful but the games themselves are fine as strategy games as well. Perhaps the mechanics could use more serious (opposite of light-hearted =P) tweaking but it's nothing to shoo under the carpet. And yes ZoE2 = Giant Robots.

Well I think this is completely irrelevent, because unless you take up Japanese there's no point looking to SRW. The series will never be released in English (ok, OG and OG2 has a chance but it doesn't look like it's going to happen for obvious chicken/egg reasons) ever. :(
