Fantasy Football help

Ok, well I've done baseball and hockey, but this is my first year doing an office fantasy football, and I have no idea what my draft should focus on... i.e. what are the most important positions, how do the point systems typically work, what about defense (you pick whole teams for D?). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Running Backs are the most important players.

As for the point systems, every online fantasty league has a comprehensive help section that can answer that.

Defense is usually an entire team deal, but check with whatever league you join, because some draft individual players.

Find out:
- How many teams there are
- Draft order
- Number and positions of players on a roster
- How the points are tallied

Each league is different, so it's hard to give much universal advice except to say that RB should almost always be your first priority.

I've done quite a few fantasy football leagues, and the poster above me is correct; RB's rule the house. That doesn't mean you should ignore the other positions, but 2 out of your first 3 picks should be a RB.

Who you should take and when, well that depends on how many players are in your league, your scoring system, your draft position, etc. Don't put too much stock in team defenses - the best one (Ravens) should be selected in the later rounds. Again, it depends on your league.

Running backs are very important. Grab a couple of good ones first. Then I'd say go after a couple recievers unless there is still an elite QB left like Manning or Culpepper.

Running backs are important. That said, if you're not drafting at a point where you can't get one of the two or three truly elite backs, you might want to consider picking up the cream of the crop at another position - QB (Manning, Culpepper) and WR (Holt, Harrison, Moss) both have standout player. I'd concentrate mostly on those three positions - picking up TE, DEF and K later on - at the end of the day there are almost certainly enough good kickers to go round. Only a couple of TEs worth springing for in early rounds - after that, it's much of a muchness.

I had pretty good luck in my two fantasy teams letting everyone else fight over the running backs and picking up truly elite WR/QB combinations. There are also bargains to be had out there - I recommend the Jacksonville defence, which is the highest ranked defence coming out of the preseason, ranked sixth overall at the end of last year, and was available in the 16th round out of 17 in my last draft. Bargain.

Oh, and make sure you know who's suffering from season-ending injuries. :)
