Fatman (2020) - Santa Claus goes Mel Gibson

... ah no wait, it's the other way around. Nevermind.

Plot
“Fatman” centers on a neglected and precocious 12-year-old who hires a hitman to kill Santa Claus after receiving a lump of coal in his stocking. Gibson portrays a rowdy Santa who’s facing a decline in business.

All the spotlight is on Dune right now, so here some bit of light for this other little (hopefully) gem in the making.
Sounds like a perfect fit for Mel, and I haven't been that excited in ages !!

Is this based on the book by Ken Harmon? I liked the idea but was disappointed with the story. I'll probably pass on the film.

EDIT: Ok did some more research, does not look like it's the same thing.

Looks like Black Friday afternoon after shopping and just ready to sit level of quality. Perfect timing.

Mel doesn't seem intense enough for this though. Where's Get the Gringo or Payback Mel when you need him.

This was filmed right here in Ottawa, Canada.

True story: while the movie was being filmed, friends of mine who are from Syria and Lebanon and go to a Melkite Catholic church in the Eastern suburbs saw a tall, bearded man sitting in the pews one Sunday morning. They wondered who it was, as they had never seen him before. Then somebody said, « that’s Mel Gibson ». He had come, unannounced, to Sunday mass. Melkite churches follow traditional rituals from centuries ago, so it makes sense Gibson, a traditional Catholic, would rather go to a Melkite service than a modern, Roman Catholic one. He took some pictures with a few churchgoers after mass and then left.

At 55 seconds into the trailer is my new favorite sound bite:

”You just messed up big time, FATMAN!!”

Watched this.

I enjoyed it, but it was not quite what I was expecting. It's more serious than you'd think.

Mel, Goggins and Marrianne Jean-Baptiste are all good. Actually, MJB may be the best part.

Movie is pretty great but the trailer makes it seem way more action packed than it is and gives off this "tongue in cheek" vibe but the movie really isn't all that funny.

It's actually more of a character drama, where a cynical Cringle has to deal with surprisingly real life issues like keeping his shop running while funding dries up. The movie had a lot of neat solutions to basic questions like "who actually pays for all the stuff Santa does?". It's very grounded and I gotta say Mel Gibson is incredible in this, really enjoyed his depiction of a broken, tired Santa. The entire cast is aces, by the way.

Basically this:

Redneckerz

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
It was/is on Netflix so i watched it with a friend a few weeks ago.

't was quite something. Its standard spiel but they don't fuck around with the violence which was quite surprising. Its so over the top it becomes comedic, however.

But hey, Mel pulls of a great Kringle who is done with life but he just can't die.*
