Spirited Away is one of my favorite films of all time. My whole top 4 is pretty amazing as far as I'm concerned.

this is so hard! i really love so many of his films and have seen many of them in the theater.

the Black Lips named their second album after dialog from the movie: "We did not know the forest spirit made the flowers grow". i used to live with the singer around that time and we used to get high and watch the movie. there may have been some acid involved. the animation is so sick. the story is great. the focus on nature is wonderful, it is one of the most beautifully animated films of all time.

i love so many of his films, Totoro, Kiki, Castle in the Sky, Nausica, Ponyo. Howl i remember watching in the theater days after breaking up with my girlfriend and it was very sad and profound.

my favorite of all will always be Spirited Away though. it is just so strange and dreamlike. a true modern Alice in Wonderland. i love how Miyazaki celebrates old spirituality and folklore throughout his movies, and this was chock full of magical things happening constantly.

i remember seeing it in the theater tripping on mushrooms. i was convinced it was a pro-proletariat anti-capitalism movie at the time, what with her parents turning into pigs that just wanted to eat, and her having to work scrubbing the shit from the rich people's bath house. then the sludge monster who starts out really nice and then slowly gets greedy and eventually goes on the giant rampage eating people who are throwing gold at him.... holy fuck, this movie is great. Miyazaki is a true legend and can craft the classic style fantasy stories, up there with the best of Mother Goose and Grimm fairy tales.

You hush your mouth Matt. Totoro is great and all, I named a cat after it but lets face it, Grave of the Fireflies is the superior movie.I'll meet you in the playground, 3 O'Clock High!

I like.. pom poko (might be the one post #18 is referring to) porco rosso... But really they're all faaantastic. Kiki is my Japanese girlfriend's.. ticket to peace lol

While I vaguely remember watching Nausicaa as a kid, I didn't know anything about Miyazaki or Ghibli at the time.
Many moons later I accidentally caught Spirited Away at like one in the morning on Cartoon Network one night, and I was legit amazed by it.

Mononoke is a masterpiece, in my top ten films of all time. It's a grand epic in scale, but a character drama at it's core, and Ashitaka as a main character makes it all work. Thinking about it just now, I wouldn't be surprised if Demon Slayer's Tanjiro was modeled after him, a strong but extremely compassionate hero.

Haven't seen Porko rosso or Nausicaa, but Spirited Away for sure out of the rest.

Best ghibli film though is Princess Kaguya. Not as imaginative but a really profound use of folklore to drive home an idea.

Spirited Away. I feel nostalgic about it since it's the movie that got me into Ghibli films. But I appreciate all Ghibli movies and consider them incredibly good looking.

It's a toss-up between Mononoke and Spirited Away. I watched those movies countless times throughout the years and never got bored of them. They're absolute masterpieces.

Porco Rosso, Kiki and Nausicaa are also pretty damn fantastic.
