Always been a fan of movie trailers - it's one of my favorite parts about going to new movies. Lately I've been digging up some of my favorites online (some of which are better than the movies themselves!).

In particular, the music to The Abyss trailer got stuck in my head for over five years until I got the widescreen THX VHS right before DVD hit hard. Such an unusual, well-crafted bit, especially with the preamble that aknowldges what a bitch it was to make. The rest never ceases to mesmerize me into a stunned stare. Easily my favorite of all time.

Favorite WTF?!?! factor trailer has to be:

Any other trailer junkies out there?

The War Of The Worlds Superbowl teaser trailer springs to mind.

I also remember seeing Star Wars Episode 1's trailer and thinking it looked really good. It did a better job than the movie, at least.

The first Garden State teaser. I loved that. It's too bad it was far more moving than the movie, although it also totally misrepresented the film's mood.

In no order

Episode I & Episode III - Both were insanely packed with action, Star Wars score, awesome visual effects. You can't take anything away from the trailers.

T2 teasers - The whole exoskeleton and "I'll be back".. Just awesome awesome hype, including the trailers

Spider-man - I swear, the damn thing sold quite a bit of that 115 million opening weekend. It was absolutely perfect as a trailer. The action, the excitement of a supehero icon in motion, the villain, the love interest, upside down makeout, web-slinging, landing on the pole... It was maybe the most beneficial trailer ever outside Star Wars. Kids wanted to see it, women, men, old people, young people, comic book fans.. Just shows what an amazing trailer could do for a movie.

Batman - It was iconic basically. Batman, Joker, the batsuit.. it was all that was needed. That and the logo, the promise of being dark, and coming off of Dark Knight Returns/Year One, both being beloved material. Perfect slice of cinema when people needed a blockbuster

Ghostbusters - Name sold it. The whole premise just caught on like wildfire. Definitely one people were talking about after it ended.

X-2: X-men United - Bad ass trailer imo. Tons of superpowers were shown, and it promised to be bigger and better than the first. Not to mention some iconic shots of Wolverine. I definitely believe this trailer was involved in the movie's 85 million dollar opening.

Day After Tomorrow - Wouldn't include this in my list but can't deny it's opening. People love destruction, this movie promised it. :-/

God I love that movie.

Spiderman.

Fuck, the first teasers that had no actual film footage from the movie were absolutely amazing. It was about the only time I can recall a teaser actually pumping me up for a movie far before it was ever relased.

Jurassic Park

Too bad the original theatrical trailer isn't online.

The one at movie-list is from after the movie was released.

Before it was released they wouldn't show ANY of the CG dinosaurs. The only thing they showed was the T-Rex foot the in mud. The trailer on the site shows a lot more.

These teasers? You better not mean those, because those are really tacky. They're like Scooby Doo teasers.

The Day After Tomorrow had an amazing trailer...

spooked the heck out of me the first time I saw it in theatres (I think it was the Dec. or Jan. before it opened)...

also the 1st Jurassic Park III trailer where at the end Grant goes "it's a bird cage" and you just hear the Pteradon swish or something...

You sure this isn't the trailer they used pre-release? Never gives you a money shot, though there are dinosaurs.

"Hold on to your butts." Samuel Jackson at his hardest.

Also, the Godzilla (1998) theatrical trailer was actually really well done. I don't think movie-list has it, but when I first saw it, I was convinced that this movie would be good... then yeh, I actually saw it & was totally letdown. But still, I think the trailer holds up quite well. :)

I remember thinking the Matrix Reloaded trailer was awesome when first seeing it. Especially when the Agent stomped on the car, and Neo burst out of the pile of Smiths, OMG. It really got my hopes up. :lol

1)Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
[I'll go as far as to say it is one of the best movie trailers I've ever seen]
2) Pearl Harbour
[I know I'm gonna get burned because it was a shitty movie but I'll be damned if it didn't have the best trailer for a war movie in YEARS]
3) The Matrix Reloaded
[Great trailer, I was on the edge of my seat up until the date flashed]

I liked the first LoTR teaser where it had the fellowship walking through the mountains, that was pretty cool (this was like a year before it came out).

Other than that..

Kill Bill teaser
Sin City
Episode 3
Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian gets an honorable mention.

Great trailer for one of the best movies ever:
http://www.movie-list.net/classics/superman.mov

"Because of the wisdom and compassion of Jor-El, because he knew the human race had the capacity for goodness, he sent us his only son.

His name is Kal-El.

He will call himself Clark Kent.

But the world will know him as Superman.

This year Superman brings you the gift of flight."

:D :D :D :D

The very first Episode II Teaser with Vader Breathing in the background. It was mysterious, eerie and certainly brought the hype.

Although the movie itself wasn't good, the trailer for the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre was absolutely brilliant. The way it was edited combined with the use of sound effects got the job done extremely effectively. If the man who edited the trailer would have done the film as well it may have turned out to be a decent movie. For me it's the most well constructed trailer I've seen in the past few years.

Yeah when I saw this in theatres, was like 8 I think, I couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped to the floor. Saw the movie like almost 10 times in the theater after that.

It was said before, but the original Alien trailer. "A word of warning, A word of warning, A word of warning, A word of warning, A word of warning....." It's just very effective.
Alien3 also had a pretty good trailer.
No one remembers it these days, but The Relic had a very effective trailer
also.....
Robin Hood, Men In Tights
Men In Black (with the LONG shot of the spaceship crashing)
All the Jack Black spots for Orange County

Adaptation had a really strong trailer, really psyched you up to go see the movie (as if that was ever in doubt). Great music and great editing.
