Favorite (Second Tier) GBA Games

Having bought a new SP, I've rekindled my love for Nintendo's handheld that refuses to just fade away into the night...so I'm looking for some new-old/used games to play.

Do you guys have any recommendations of games, that you enjoyed, that aren't on that top tier(advance wars, castlevanias, metroids, etc.) that you see listed here all the time?

For instance, I'm thinking of games that look like fun and got good reviews, like MOH-Infiltrator...but you don't hear people mention often or at all.

The Sims-Bust'n Out and Urbz got great reviews, people say they're addicting, etc., but I don't see them mentioned often.

Genres I like are pretty vast, I'm not too much into the turn-based RPGs.

I wish there was a game like Fable for the GBA, sort of like take the Sims element, and create a fantasy/action/adventure. Or a game like Morrowind for GB...

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is a pretty good port to GBA (With several selectable languages as well).

Lady Sia (a GBA launch game) is a decent to good action game.

Banjo Kazooie I hear is decent as well as is Sabrewulf.

And the only create a fantasy/whatever type or Sims games I can think of off hand are Harvest Moon: Friends/More Friends of Mineral Town and the Pokemon games and their clones (like Metabots, etc)

And since you're playing on an SP, pick up the first 3 Game and Watch Gallery games. Great pick up and play games with autosave feature.

Cool, thanks guys. I appreciate the input.

Sabrewulf looks interesting, is it more platform vs. adventure?

I totally forgot about Super Dodgeball... I'm gonna keep on the lookout for that. Broken Sword too.

Harvest Moon I was thinking about, I'm afraid it might be a big time sucker though!

Anyone have opinions on Wing Commander? I've read mixed reviews.

use the search....

Read my post.

I did a search, but the GBA recommendations consistantly list the same games over and over again, a good majority of the time. If I'd found the answers I was looking for elsewhere, I wouldn't have posted.

A couple of the afformentioned titles I rarely see mentioned here.

Thanks for your contribution.

There are like 20034849373429473 GBA toptitles topics.. Titles in this thread has already been named in earlier threads and so will new named titles.

To contribute:
- micromachines
- kirby 1 & 2
- breath of fire II
- Banjo Pilot
- Hamtaro: Ham Ham heartbreak (it's great fun, trust me)

Till next week.....

it's a platformer game with little bits of adventuring (you have to travel around towns and stuff to get to the actual stages)

it is a pretty interesting game, especially since that the character you control in the game has no special powers or abilities. basically, you have to get animals and use them to complete levels. in each level, you have to go through obstacles and strategically use your animals to overcome them (you have limited number of animals you can use)...at the end of the stage, you have to pick up some treasure thingy and escape to the beginning of the level while a wulf chases you. it's very interesting and original. the game should be cheap at toys r us if you can find it (should be under $20)

Sabre Wulf is great.

Occasionally I like to play Sea Trader....it's an economic/pirate/merchant game that's fairly simplistic but fun.

Has anyone here tried the port of International Karate? Specifically the European IK+ which I hear is better.

Lots of 'em!

Castlevania Circle of the Moon/Harmony of Dissonance/Aria of Sorrow
Sonic Advance 1-3
Klonoa 1 and 2
River City Ransom
Bubble Bobble: Old and New
Puyo Pop
Columns Crown
Mega Man Zero 1-3
Mega Man and Bass
Contra Advance
Super Dodge Ball
Phantasy Star Collection
Shining Soul 1 and 2
Shining Force
Ninja Five-O
Advance Guardian Heroes
Gradius Galaxies
Iridion II
Breath of Fire I and II
Disney's Magical Quest 1-3
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Final Fight One
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Super Puzzle Fighter II
Super Street FIghter II Turbo Revival
Street FIghter Alpha 3
Wade Hixton's Counter Punch

I don't know if I can call all of these 'second-tier', but they are all much more difficult to find than your typical Nintendo title.

Karnaaj is supposed to be quite good, despite a scathing "review" by Seanbaby (which actually doesn't address the game - he didn't even boot it up :lol )

Phantasy Star Collection would be well worth your while, though it's very hard to find and you'll probably have to settle for a cheap cart-only copy from Amazon or Ebay.

Both of the Monster Rancher Advance titles are superb, better than any of the installments on PS1/PS2 in my opinion.

yeah Karnaaj and Car battler Joe are 2 that ive never played, but have heard good things about.

Advance Guardian Heroes rocks. Hajime No Ippo for Import rocks.

but what about Urban Yeti?! has anyone ever played this game? i doubt its a great title, but ive allways wanted to own it. not sure if i ever saw it in any stores.

Rebelstar Tactical Command
Guru Logic Champ
Prince of Persia (which is actually quite different than the console version, it's a 2d side scroller..)
Klonoa 1&2
Astro Boy
Chu Chu Rocket (if you didn't play the dreamcast version, perfect portable game nevertheless)
The Lost Vikings (again if you didn't play it on SNES/Amiga/PC..)
Sabrewulf

I find "King of Fighters EX 2: Howling Blood" to be quite fun, much better than the garbage that was the original KOFex on the gba.
