The 2013 show is pretty boring, post your favourite moments from when the show actually seemed less predictable and edgy

Nirvana opening the show with the intro to Rape Me because MTV told them they couldn't play it, switching to Lithium and Krist Novoselic calling out Axl Rose at the end

Nothing will top Nirvana in '92. The Rape Me intro, the Michael Jackson impersonator, Novoselic quoting fucking Joseph Goebbels, the fight with Guns n Roses, damn.

Having said that, I really liked Metallica's performance in '91 and the Kid Rock/Aerosmith/Run DMC thing in '99 (I think, I can't remember well).

Britney Spears Slave 4 U snake. Had the biggest crush on her growing up. She was iconic year in and year out.

I've watched this show throughout the 90s and beginning of the 2000s...

and I cant think of a "great" or above average thing happening.

Everything feels too fake, everyone, including artist I like looks like they're trying too hard.

1996 was the most memorable vmas for me. Smashing pumpkins cleaned house that year.

Yup, that was awesome

Tonight, Tonight

The Smashing Pumpkins led the pack that night with nine nominations and seven wins. Of these, their video for "Tonight, Tonight" earned seven wins out of its eight nominations, including Video of the Year, thus making it the night's most nominated and biggest winning video. Furthermore, their video for "1979" earned the one Moonman it was nominated for: Best Alternative Video.

Wait, what's going on with Axl Rose and this guy in the OP?

We’re not sure if we’d be so brave and crazy as to pick a fight with Axl Rose while we were holding a three-week old baby in our arms, but by his own account that’s exactly what Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain did at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.

As Cobain tells it, “Axl Rose walked by us (Cobain and wife Courtney Love), and we yelled at Axl, we said (sarcastically), ‘would you be the godfather of our child?’” Reportedly, the Guns N’ Roses frontman turned to Kurt and declared, “You better keep your wife shut, or I’m gonna take you to the pavement.” Luckily, cooler heads prevailed, and nobody was hurt except Nirvana’s goofball bassist, who threw his instrument high in the air and caught it with his own head that same evening.

Axl would've stomped him. He was/is legit crazy

Use Your Illusion is better than anything Cobain could have ever dreamed of doing. I would become enraged if his trashy wife was talking smack at me.

So great.

Not VMAs but the Eminem Stan duet with Elton John was sick.

Stevie Wonder and Red Hot Chili Peppers doing higher ground was SICK.
