(Yeah, we've pimped Bitch Lap Lap before, but I think it's time for another round now that she's getting more attention in the states.)

Every song on "Let It Die" is either good or great: "One Evening", "Leisure Suite" and the Bee Gees cover of "Inside and Out" are sinuous, sexy adult contemporary with just enough razzmatazz and self-awareness to save them from tipping into a lake of cheese; the primal pubic rage of "When I Was a Young Girl" provides the LP's darkest note and "Tout Doucement", a silly piano-driven French trifle flies wildly in the opposite direction; "Gatekeeper", "Lonely Lonely" and the album's eponymous track allow Feist's beautiful voice to claim the spotlight on the cabaret stage; the aforementioned "Mushaboom" is everything a single has any right to hope for. "Let It Die" is a fabulous disc; the terrific lag between its release in Europe and the US (it will FINALLY see a major label American release in early April) is not only unfortunate but downright maddening. Suffice it to say, I'm glad to see signs that Leslie's Yankee takeover is going down, better late than never.

The video for 'One Evening' is also online somewhere, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link here.

tofuhut.blogspot.com has more background and an interview with her.

Everyone in the Seattle area come out to the Sonic Boom Records in Capitol Hill, she'll be there at 6pm tonight signing autographs and performing a short set.

I am completely unfamiliar with all things Feist as far as discography goes. I was recently blown away by her live show, and did pick up this album at said show. It is a good record, god what a voice! But it doesn't much like a good portion of her live songs did. Maybe I just caught her on a really bitter night. :lol

So this is the new album? Hmm, then it's probably her older one I'm looking for. "When I Was a Young Girl" was one of the tracks. Does anyone know if her previous album has more of that sound?

Some people have said her first album is more "indie" sounding versus the adult contemp. vibe on her new one. It's not very bluesy at all.

She did release a live EP that might be right up your alley. I'll, uh, send it to you when I get home from work.

She's absolutely amazing in the two songs she contributes her vocals to in Riot On An Empty Street by Kings Of Convenience. Also contributed on the last Broken Social Scene album.

She rocks.

She opened up for Rilo Kiley when I saw them a few weeks ago, and though her approach to music (especially live) is pretty cool and interesting, I was honestly bored to tears. :\

This album is so mundane. Half sounds like a cut-rate Dido, the other half a cut-rate Dido doing karaoke of Fiona Apple.

I take it this first album is Monarch? Doesn't seem like that one's available anywhere right now.

I'm liking what I'm hearing on the KCRW segment.

Yeah, it's Monarch. Came out in 1999 and only 2000 copies were pressed. I'm sure there'll be a reissue sooner or later.

She's got a nice voice, but the album is incredibly bland. The only really spectacular song is "Mushaboom," which is genius.. the rest.. eh, it's nice enough I guess. It sucks that the best songs, besides Mushaboom, are all covers. Eh.

Mushaboom was well worth my $10.. $5 for the album and $5 for the Mushaboom UK 7" that is now autographed by Ms. Feist.

The Broken Social Scene song she did last night was very different, had a little bit of a rockabilly vibe to it.

Hahahahaha beat me to it. Was going to say that I was utterly misled by this thread title. FOR SHAME!

And yes, Magician is a fucking unreal book. Go read it you fantasy nut-heads.

actually, i've got to admit that i enjoy her live shows way more than her album.

HOWEVER, her new songs sound great, so I have high expectations for the next one.
